Confirmed HSBC renewing Rewards Of Your Choice 6X renewed for 2018 without change

Same as last year - your 6x category will be unchanged, unless you call 8228 2555 to reallocate by 7 December. Categories are the same and annual spending limit still HKD 100k.

Is Dining still a sensible category for most people?

Then again my Home quota has only been used $39k this year <-- all in conjunction with a Mannings/Broadway promo or getting cheap phones off Wilson Communications...coupon prices are now too low to justify trading them on their own.

On the BankComm promo, shouldn't we:
1 - spend on CUP up to 40K each period
2 - if possible, spend 5K on VISA on a Fri/Sat/Sun to get 20K points - qualifying for 'spend both cards' and 5K on VISA

That's what I plan to do next phase.

I'm planning to get one myself for next 939. Apparently I just rock up to a branch and ask for a form.

Apparently there's a way to AAVS yourself into a European tour as welcome offer? But if it's Hong Thai 6am couch routine...urghhh....
CCB AIA Diamond CUP is 15 pt per miles.
CCB Diamond Prestige CUP is 8 pt per miles.

Misread, thought the invite was for Prestige Diamond

AIA Diamond is ho hum. All you get is one more card for 939. Still 15 points/AM

Thinking of changing the Red Hot Rewards bonus category from Dining to Overseas Spending, given that a lot of our spend (around 45%) is overseas. Does this make sense or are there better cards to use for overseas spend and keep Dining as the bonus category?

Yes sure. Hopefully they have overseas quarterly promo like this year.

Thanks -- crunched the numbers and looks like I would be better off selecting the Overseas category for my Visa Signature and Local Dining (a category far smaller for me) for my Visa Platinum.

I assume any transaction processed overseas (except PRC/Macau) in currencies other than HKD count as Overseas?

The only drawback is not being able to transfer into Avios which is very much core of my redemption patterns. If I hold the HSBC Premier Mastercard can I transfer RC out of any HSBC card to Avios, or only those RC earned through the Premier Mastercard?

I'm doing the same as you, just called in this morning to switch from dining to overseas. 2.78$/mile is hardly better than 3$ with Citi PM but I am not sure I can keep hitting 20k spend on the PM every months and then HSBC VS would be far superior to the 4$/mile. Add to that the frequent overseas HSBC promos and it's probably quite a good move.

Regarding your Avios, what do you mean? Why wouldn't you be able to transfer into Avios? AFAIK, you can transfer RC to Avios from any of your cards as long as you hold the Premier Mastercard.

So assuming I choose Overseas (as I've done every year), I should not use it until there's a promo, further reducing the $/mile ratio? I didn't know it could get better than $2.78/mile??

In previous years I max out the $100,000 cap (easily done in one visit to Hermes) and then never touch the card again. Silly me if I've missed something ....

Yep, I am calling in to do the switch today.

Well, I currently bank with Citi and routinely transfer from ThankYou points into Avios. I would need to open an account with HSBC and transfer funds ($1M?) into it to qualify for Premier banking in order to be able to transfer RC to Avios, correct?

Category is applicable to all cards held by cardholder. You can't card sea your way into multiple categories

Yes, even if DCCed

All cards held by cardholder. I earn no RC thru my supp Premier MC, focus on VS.

Should have clarified that I hold the VS (my wife being a supplementary card holder) and she holds the Plat (where I'm a supplementary card holder).

VS+supp card: Overseas
VP+supp card: Dining

Should be possible, correct?

Actually the Plat is irrelevant

Your VS: dining
Her VS: overseas

You both get separate 100k ROYC (total 200k) and 100k VS 3X (total 200k). Ditch the Plat
