So sad all these USD-denominated offshore products are going away.

You can't open a CSR in the US? Any SSN/US income?

I'm not sure whether Amex HK offers USD IDC https://www.americanexpress.com/us/c...urion-idc.html - could your transactions be run with Amex?
If you're not based in the US or Singapore then there's the "international" EUR and USD AmEx cards: https://www.americanexpress.com/icc/

They have a free basic version: https://www.americanexpress.com/icc/...ency-card.html, but it doesn't earn MR points.

Paying it off could be troublesome - for the USD card it looks like the options are an ACH transfer, US$ cheque (US$25 fee for accounts not in USA, UK or Switzerland), or SWIFT transfer.

Ermen

Yes basic spend is included

Diamond CUP (the one with Tsing Ma bridge, not the Yan Chai and FWD CUPs even tho they too are technically Diamond) earns 2X where the spending is >=$300 (all spends must be >=$400 to count for this promotion anyway)

Plat Visas earn 2x overseas

FWD CUP and Plat Visas earn 2X in hospitals and medical clinics (a feature I take advantage of before sending my dermo's bill back to bupa)

---

Keepclimbing thanks. Lack of local settlement is a no-go

Maya1005 you're SOL. BoC it is (boc used to have a usd card too but again no longer accepting new applications)

What are thoughts on mobile wallet top-up for this promotion?

Noting its silent, what's Bocomm's policy in general on this point?

If you're HSBC Premier (and possibly other HSBC accounts as well), you can get them to open an account for you with HSBC Expat in Jersey and then apply for the USD and/or EUR cards through them.

That solves the payment problem. When I did this a few years back, they automatically set up a standing order to pay off the Amex card bill from my HSBC Expat bank account (but I dropped the card after a year because the mileage earning rate on the HK cards--even factoring in the cost of currency conversion--is so much better).

You also have to consider where is the money to settle the offshore charges?

I maintain an Australian credit card cos my mates come and spend here, I card for them and they pay me back via local bank transfer over there, avoiding the general 3% FCC Australian banks apply.

I then spend down the AUD when I go over there, and if I can card the spending (preferably without surcharge), I spend it via local card.

[was worried about new Payme login mode, but perhaps it's not as big a security concern as first thought https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forum.../22420?page=1]

Do not link existing Moneyback accounts to new MB app - will disable AM conversion

(Hat tip Jokelib)

ASW also pushed out a new app for Moneyback
But it's having teething problems

New app will link existing Parknshop Moneyback, Watsons Club and Fortress iClub
Linking Moneyback is the problem

Once linked to new app, old Moneyback web login is disabled
New app is currently unable to transfer Moneyback to Asia Miles
Cannot go back to old Moneyback log in to transfer Moneyback to Asia Miles from there

Recommendation: don't link old Moneyback accounts to new app until further notice. In fact I won't link my existing Moneyback account to the app unless I'm given a compelling reason to.

Sadly too late for me! Has anyone come up with a workaround yet? I was thinking of checking whether the kiosks in PnS still allow you to convert to AM.

No-one tried yet. May still work

We realised we were given a clue in the app's conversion page:

It's not obvious tho, that the previous conversion method https://www.moneyback.com.hk/Web/Pag...46&sp=SAMLogin will be disabled as a result of linking your existing Moneyback to the app

Edited 20:28: preliminary findings:

- jokelib approached a barcode-only kiosk. His old account was Fortress iClub.
He can't log into the kiosk with his new app QR code
But he can with his old app's QR code (printed out)
However, even after logging in this way, he still cannot convert Fortress iClub Moneyback to AM

- Joe Chan https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forum...w/22423?page=3 #23 can still log in into a kiosk. His appears to be a Parknshop moneyback (not 100% sure)
He can log in
But he didn't try conversion
