I initially advocated using an Android phone cos it can run Android Pay, play my media collections and Android-only apps like HK Flight Info, but with drop-off of Android Pay offers and pretty high device requirements for Samsung Pay, I'm not so sure about one-Android-device-to-rule-them-all strategy

I contemplated trading up for the S8 wide screen but I want to maintain device lockstep with both my mothers for troubleshooting.

My previous calculation:
Cost of capital: 0.8% p.a.
Valuation of miles: $0.08/AM

Per $1 paid on 30.6.17
Extra miles earned (over 1.7.17 rate): 0.075 AM
= $0.006

Solving for months where my $100 interest foregone approximates miles gained $ amount = 0.006/0.008 x 12 = 9 months

---

Revised cost of capital (I forgot what is the missus's promo savings rate): 1%
Revised valuation of miles after May-June incidents: $0.06

0.075 AM = $0.0045

New solving for months = 0.0045/0.01 x 12 = 5.4 months

---

My HKE bill is under $400 a month even this summer...it's rates that's killing me, and the multiples of my bills that my parents rack up

Hi Dmitriy,

The 'Standard Chartered Asia Miles Mastercard' works with Android Pay.

Earn rate may not be great but the sign-up bonus(es) could make it tempting. Am sure percysmith could advise much better.

[and if signing up before end of June I (like many others here) could provide you a sign-up link where we both get some extra miles. ]

Sorry if I am joining this late. I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out today as well...my interpretation at this point is:

1. You must earn/convert miles through your credit card (co-branded or otherwise), and

2. You must spend at one of their lifestyle partners (on the AM website) and ask for the mileage earn to be credited to your AM account separately (this would be received in addition to any mileage earn you receive from your credit card spending). I think this second category would include if you fly during the promotion period and credit to your AM account, or if you eat at one of their partner restaurants and meet the eligible spend requirement (generally HK$300). And it seems conversion of partner points into AM such as The Club would also count as "spending" at a lifestyle partner

But seriously, the explanation on the website and T&C is horrible. And the examples they gave of the three goals are not helpful at all...

On a more positive note, I was really surprised to see how many partner restaurants they have around my home/office (and some of them even places I eat from time to time). I will be using this to figure out where next to treat my colleagues!

calf613:

1. My understanding too. Despite all of AM's tilting of the advertising towards co-branded card I think it's an awful way to run up the 30,000 AM because all your spending will have to be during the promotion period (compared to my simply converting already-accumulated non-cobranded credit card points into Asia Miles during the promotion period)

2. Fly, eat, The Club/Moneyback yes. I've converted 100AM into each of me and my parents' accounts.

3. Partner restaurants - they used to be horrible, but they have improved over time. Still, I think I only racked up one restaurant earn a year, despite not cooking at home.

I clearly need to review the wiki more often! Just realised my last school fees payment on the BEA WF won't earn any points. Should have paid using my HSBC card instead.

For RVD payments, are those considered tax or are those eligible to earn points with BEA?

Thanks

I got burned paying premiums with Prudential on Bankcomm Super Fun Spending Program https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post28034466 for last month - was excluded from promo. And I even rocked up to Prudential's centre in Causeway Bay to do it, and paid a surcharge.

(Before anyone asks:

- most insurance premiums can only be bill paid on banks' websites. Prudential is the obvious exception, though I chose the product first before thinking about payment.

- insurance is almost treated like cash advance because some enterprising (motivated) card jings have been drawing down policy loans against their insurance policies, and paying them down almost immediately for the credit card points/rebates

- many banks have set insurance bill payment rebate limits (HSBC, BoC, Hang Seng). In terms of miles, CCB leads with $8/AM for CCB VI and $15/AM for CCB Platinum

- if you can charge it online, using carbon copy form (initial premium) or over the counter like Prudential, BEA Flyer World $5/AM is now the miles card to go)

Question on the BoComm HK Super Fun Spending Rewards Program:

I've just realized that I need to change my itinerary for a trip I booked previously, which will result in me needing to cancel and refund one of the flights I booked during one phase of this program. Now, I can wait until after the points are awarded in August (for Phase 3) before I cancel, but I see that the T&C of the program state that if you cancel a transaction that was used to calculate your spending for the promotion after they award the bonus points, they reserve the right to debit the amount equivalent to the value of the points from your card. Does anyone know how strict they are with this in practice?

I had a similar situation but had to be dealt with in same phase.
I made up the spending, but looking at the posted transactions now, I wondered whether I had to?

I'd imagine they'd match by merchant name-description, and cases like these two pairs will be very difficult to match
