As an existing SCB card holder who does not have the AM card, I just got a SMS offering to sign up for the AM card. $1 = 1AM for the first $10,000 spending in the first 2 months. No minimum spending.

Perhaps they realize that I might be one of the last 10 people in HK who are eligible for the card but never applied
Asked them about it last year and they said since I'm an existing SCB cardholder I'm not eligible for the new sign-up benefits. Since then my SCB cards have been left in the drawer.

May as well churn the card then. Wait 6 months. Quite possible the 100,000 miles sign up will be still around. Looks like a direct competition to the AE CX bonus offer.

My SO applied for the SCB AM card under the previous promo terms, but the application is still pending as she hasn't submitted all supporting documents yet.

Would it be possible to just make a new application under the new 100k miles sign up promo instead? What would the implications be?

Generally HK banks can be relied upon to act upon the first credit card application you've submitted. I tried revoking a Dah Sing application very early in my miles hoarding days, only for me to realise Dah Sing points can only be used to redeem UA Mileage Plus not AM.

I called one night to revoke the application and the customer service representative assured me it has been done.

Two nights later I received the card and was told I must hold it for min 13 months.

AmEx CX Elite RSVP code: CXRSVP212

Same as RSVP412 https://www.americanexpress.com/hk/e...cxrsvp412.html
as far as I can tell except you get 2,000 AM per supp cardholder you apply for (4,000 AM maximum)
Not sure if anyone else received the same but my 'fanfares' email today was titled 'Earn up to 104,000 Asia Miles, fanfares and more' and the header was an advert with "Apply for the American Express® Cathay Pacific Elite Credit Card and enjoy an exclusive HKD2=1 Asia Mile earn rate. Use RSVP code: CXRSVP212"

www.americanexpress.com/hk/en/campaigns/rsvp/cxcontrol/cxrsvp212.html

The offer seems to be the same as the previous links, with all now offering a total of 104,000 AM (for sign-up before 18-August):
50,000 AM (HK$2=1AM for local spend in first 3 months),
50,000 AM (HK$2=1AM for foreign currency spend [online+offline] in first 3 months),
2,000 AM (submit documents with 7-days) and
1,000 AM for each of 2 supplementary cards

All T&C's links lead to:
www.americanexpress.com/hk/en/content/pdf/AE-RSVP-TNC.pdf

Only difference seems to be in the offer link addresses:
112 : .../cxdirect/cxrsvp112
212 : .../cxcontrol/cxrsvp212
412 : .../cxvip/cxrsvp412

Yeah they look identical now. So just use the newest one (212)?

New Citi Cashback Visa Card

Given the relatively lower valuation of AM/Avios that many here have, saw this offer and thought might be of interest to those who haven't seen yet. Citi just launched a cashback card with 2% cashback on local hotel/dining, with 1% cashback on other categories:

http://www.citibank.com.hk/english/c...shBackVisaCard

Welcome offer in particular might be of interest (which is why posting in this thread rather than the other ongoing earn rate one): 8% + 2% (if you are first 6K customers who sign up) cashback on HK$15K or more spend (have to hit exactly for %'s to work, cashback fixed at HK$1.2K + HK$300) in the first 2 months. Offer valid from 7/27/2017-8/31/2017.

2% on foreign transactions also

Since our best cards are $3.75/mile overseas, $4/AM dining (unless you use the HSBC 6X here) and $5/AM other, this implies valuations of $0.075/AM for overseas, $0.08/AM for dining and $0.05/AM for other

Other is below my valuation so I'll stick w/ BEA

Dining should go back to cash rebate on my $0.06 valuation but I'm already on BEA Visa Signature 0.4% x 6X in coupon < 2%

Overseas follows dining but I've many other cards with promo e.g. DBS Compass 5% to the end of this month and also HSBC 6X (4.16/AM 2.77/Avios)

And no handling charge on foreign currency transactions. Nice to see this feature on a non-UnionPay card!
