Pretty much. Although some would still prefer SCB AM given it automatically converts into AM's without fee - HSBC will require HKD 300 annually for conversion to AM.

On another note, have people figured out whether in-app payments like HKTaxi or Deliveroo count for "Online" spend yet?

No. Going through Moneyback you get more AM for your Rewardcash for less fee. But conversion limits 1,000RC/day 5,000RC/month 10,000RC/year

I'll stick my neck out again and say it does - an app transaction rarely isn't online, unless merchant does some weird end of day autopay billing (e.g. Uber, I just checked w hsbc)

I'm surprised that Uber isn't classified as online given that it authorises the charge instantly as soon as a car accepts the ride.

It's an Uber-specific quirk.

Well my credit card was held about ten times trying to Uber back from Central on 1/10 (protest in Causeway Bay and Central MTR was closed) but no Uber came and I was not finally charged (walked to Sheung Wan MTR with baggage).

This may change on 1 Nov. I didn't get the warning message on my own Moneyback but someone did:

Bonus miles - Welcome offer Asia Miles SC

Hi,

Does anyone know if the bonus miles of the welcome offer of the Asia Miles SC card are credited every month with the "regular" miles or at a later stage?
Many thanks!

Or after you clean out your HKD100k limit for VS bonus and Red Hot category, which is quite easy to do on F&B unfortunately. After that, I would use SCB AM (if pursuing miles).

If everyone has the CX AE, make 2 new supplementary cards before end of March for 1,000AM. https://www.americanexpress.com/hk/e...pcard-06012020

No spending requirement (apart from marathon fees) and you don't actually have to attend the run; only submit proof that you are a registrant.

The 60K offer is unattractive after the initial spending to earn the first 18K.
Any idea how this works given that the marathon is suspended now? The link still works and it is good until Feb 9 2020.

EDIT: nevermind - just realized that registration isn't possible now. anyone know of any good SCB AM offers other than the 40K? I plan to use it for Octopus AAVS, primarily and jettison my Bankcomm card.

Any good welcome offers (other than SCB Asia Miles or AMEX Cathay)? I saw Citi has a welcome offer of 9000 on their premier miles card. Didn’t see anything else that works as well. Or would HSBC Red? The conversion to AM is a bit intransparent.

Mea culpa

Originally I’ve been routing all my Uber transactions thru PayPal - PayPal seems to be 4% on Red regardless of the underlying merchant, direct billing by Uber seems to be on and off for online.

And I have been earning 4% all the way to 20 Jan.

But when I got my Feb statements, I noticed there was missing Rewardcash. Since there weren’t many transactions on the statement, a CS agent quickly traced the non-online transactions to Uber as well as Ubereats after 21 Jan.

The agent did not offer any explanation why a transaction in one week count but not the next “the system says so”/“it is what it is”.

I troubleshoot PayPal and noticed Uber was under category “Automatic Payment”.
I was done changing my two accounts over to CCB JD when the missus walked in and asked why was I changing my Uber setup.
I explained what I found, and she opened her HSBC Internet Banking for me to check. She wasn’t missing 4% from her Uber rides - any of them (there were three in the last statement cycle).

I then dig deeper and realised she didn’t route her Uber transactions thru PayPal.
I quickly disabled my PayPal linkages to Uber and entered my Red cards directly into Uber. Hopefully that’ll solve things until next time someone tinkers with the system.
