Thanks Percy. It seems the cards that offer lounge access do not have a good miles earning rate. Thinking of having one card to enjoy lounge access only while another to earn miles make more sense, but then I would not have enough spending to keep the card with lounge benefits, e.g. CX elite or Citi prestige. That leads me into thinking to buy cash vouchers and sell it at a lost (at .95) as seen on hongkongcard.com to earn miles and keep the card, would that justify the lost? Or alternatively, would getting one of those cashback cards more value for money?
150k x 5% = $7,500 <-- not a great deal
I said first year exempt, and subsidiary cardholders (authorised users) also enjoy Plaza Premium lounge benefits (not Priority Pass).
Does your spouse have income or deposits (I have a colleague who's having her mother apply in lieu of a spouse)?
Otherwise they won't be so popular here

Following the opening of the HK Centurion lounge at the beginning of the week the web-page for the Platinum (Charge) Card has been updated, the 'By Invitation' has been replaced by an 'Apply Now' link and there is a Welcome Offer of 700,000 MR points. Annual Fee unchanged at HK$7,800.

hotel benefits are not bad. SPG gold can be linked to Marriot gold which gives lounge access and guranteed late check out... the accor benefit platinum i miss a lot. i never triee Hilton/conrad but gold does get good upgrades. also the FHR program is very beneficial. with Jade shangrila i had good welcome benefits.
based on your calculation this is worth 1800 hkd alone to me... but if one never stay in these upscale hotel or travel, obviously platinum aint worth it even for asiamiles.

For SCB Asiamiles mastercard, the welcome offer of up to 100,000 asia miles says that eligible transactions should be retail or online spending. Does this include dining, paywave, and payme?

For the SCB 100k Asia Miles welcome offer (now changed to 30k Asia Miles), we hit the $177,500 within the first statement cycle. I just checked the statement and only 42k Asia Miles are credited to the account this month -- will the 'bonus portion' (however much that may be -- I'm not sure how they segment the miles) be credited at a later stage or in the next statement? I can't find the T&Cs for the previous welcome offer so can't double-check.
Most of the spend was overseas so the ~42k miles seem to be at the 'standard' HKD4 = 1 Asia Mile overseas earn rate.
