Nope, PPS also says the same thing "Bill Number field must be filled by number. English alphabet, symbol or space is not applicable, please input again."

And the one I saw near the barcode is also rejected.

If can't pay by ppshk then very hard to pay by bank internet banking. Bank internet banking is just a proprietary implementation of ppshk.

Thanks Jacobsleather and Percysmith! That's what I figured too, and I have switched back to bank autopay. Too bad as those would have been some easy miles...

Added DBS, HSB, BEA, SCB and HSBC successfully.

(None but the HSBC Apple Pay/Android Pay hybrid offer really relate to miles though, others are all cash rebate or non-miles points)
DBS and SCB Android Pay, HSBC Apple Pay/Android Pay offer last day today.

Also if you have the four-phase HSBC tax payment offer (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb), first phase due today.

I have spoken with someone at MTR who seemed to be very confident. They no longer accept PPS payment. The payment options are Cash, Cheque and Autopay. The only solution for flat/carpark owners not residing in Hong Kong is Autopay.

It seems there is no way to contact a central point at MTR Head Office. This info came from the estate property management office.

Too bad. Maybe I should sell up and move to a new estate so I can earn miles on the management fee.

Disappointing

But I haven't had the good fortune to live in a estate with a PPS payee either.

Any thoughts on the Amex Platinum (Charge) Card in HK?
  • How does the "by invitation only" work? Can I request an invite?
  • Understand it comes with SPG Gold and unlimited Priority Pass?
  • Does it waive the annual fee on any other Amex cards (I know this is the case in several other markets)?
  • What's the insurance like? Particularly on car rental?

Basically, is it worth getting? And what are the alternatives?

Fails any value for money analysis we can imagine http://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/20401 , unless face is given a monetary value

Send in a payslip of $1M annualised or $2.5M bank statement http://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/5145 #4 and get invited.

No car rental benefits (excluded - see Section X)

What are you looking for? Wallet Candy? Miles? Concierge? Service?

Wallet Candy: Hard to think of any in the same class.
Miles: BEA Flyer World for quantity, Citi Prestige for breadth of programs to convert
Concierge: Citi Prestige Aspire concierge is roughly equal to Platinum Lifestyle, but both were inferior to the previous Prestige Tengroup concierge.
Service (I'm assuming you mean towards expat): I still think Amex has an advantage here - Citi is decidedly inferior. If you speak Canto though, the local banks do a better job on service.

Thanks percysmith. Clearly Amex Plat is not great in HK, and with a high annual fee at that.

Are there any HK credit cards with comprehensive travel insurance (including car rental waivers)?

Car rental - we've been looking for weeks. No.

I rented a car in Calgary for C$209 and paid another C$209 for the waiver.

One trick here is to rent a car through a UK website. Often insurance with zero excess is included at no/small extra price. I have saved hundreds of USD doing this. (not tried doing it for Canada)

I've often fond that autoeurope gives the best prices, just remember to change the country on the top left of the screen to the UK. It is not necessary to give either a UK address or have a UK licence

Thanks.

Does the insurance work though?
I mean the (Canadian) car rental will have my card, so in case the car rental co makes a claim against me and charges my card (this is truly possession is nine-tenths of the law...), how do I get the insurance to stand in and defend me, or alternatively to indemnify me?

Unlike a ticket from a Greek OTA that I can verify the bona fides of with the airline/checkmytrip/sabre, I find it difficult to verify the bona fides of the insurance I buy this way.

(This being a credit card thread) If I bought ineffective insurance from some OTA I can probably chargeback the premium and probably the rental as well. But they're small amounts compared to the snow rental I junked (I almost junked my Toyota rental last Boxing Day...)

Percy, this latest HSBC promotion does only apply to those who put the extra 6X into dining. It's for everyone, right?
