thanks so much for your most helpful responses. i typically try to redeem my miles for hkg - us business class flights and seems pretty clear that AM is the way to go. avios seems to be strongest for domestic us and short haul asia flights, which could also be worthwhile for some conversion given the more favorable HSBC conversion + bonus.

i ended up buying myself a cancelable ticket and putting myself on the waitlist for AM redemption to minimize risk of not being able to get on a flight!

HSBC 6X and VS 3X renewed for 2017 on 2016 terms

http://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/20357

No significant changes from 2016 said the poster in Hongkongcard, tho I haven't received the new T&C mailer myself.

HSBC tells me the limits are both $100K and $100K respectively, same as 2016.

If you need to change 6X category, you must do so by 7 Dec 16.

So no change on the Signature 3X in 2017 ?

Edit: I have seen some of the question on HongKongCard are in English, Signature seems safe in 2017.

If one can max this out, along with quarterly promo and 50% avios bonus, this is probably the slickest credit card deal in the world by far...one can only dream of such earning rates in the US. That's what keeps me tolerating HSBC's bureaucracies...

One point I have never been too clear on: if I have HSBC Premier Mastercard and HSBC Visa Signature, can I redeem the RC earned through the VS to Avios too?

I have a good stack of RC now, so looking to redeem by the end of the year for that 50% bonus.

How do you change the HSBC redhot categories? Just dial-in to the hotline ((852) 8228 3308) and re-do the registration? Or should we call customer service?

Just got my Red Hot Rewards confirmation letter in the mail today.

It says call 8228 9908 if you want to reallocate your 5x RC categories (before deadline of 7 December).

On a different topic, if using my HSBC card, what's the best vendor for buying some new Apple products? Was thinking since I have Home as my 5x category, Fortress might be the way to go. On the other hand, I have some Apple gift cards that I want to use...and I am not sure if Fortress will even have what I want in stock.

iPhones? All of them are quite under water now.
Probably shouldn't have too hard time finding them in Fortress or Broadway. Check that Broadway doesn't mark up because they did before (all Apple resellers except Fortress did, breached their resale agreements with Apple).

percysmith just want to make sure this is correct:

If I'm using the HSBC Visa Signature card and select overseas spending for my 6x and 5x, then I get 1 mile for every HK$2.78 spent overseas?

And the cap is HK$100,000 in 2017?

Aware of the HK$2,500 annual fee for the Citi Prestige card. I've used some of its benefits, namely the get one night free offer with a four night stay, but since they have changed to Aspire for their concierge, its just a pain to deal with. The only other real benefit is the yearly bonus AM and I do get a bit of a bump having had a Citi card for several years, so get some additional % with the annual relationship bonus. Free priority pass is not an issue for me, as I have SCB PB.

Originally went for the Citi as well because of the flexibility of being able to use either Avios or AM, but with the recent devaluation of Avios, not sure if its better value than AM any more. If that's the case, I may consider moving back to pure AM. I guess if that's the case, should I be considering the BEA World Flyer and HSBC Visa Signature instead for my spend?

Also my missus is presently on the CX Amex and Citi PremierMiles. Originally got the CX Amex for the priority pass, but now that has diminished. Are there any other cards (apart from Citi Prestige) that get more lounge access? I think not, but want to check.
OK, update as follows.

Got my BEA card, that is now my main day to day card and will also update to use for AAVS.

Have just received my HSBC Visa Signature. I'm not HSBC Premier, so will only benefit from AM. Debating which Red Hot category to use the card. Am leaning between supermarket, overseas or dining.

I will still maintain my Citibank Prestige (for the yearly miles, concierge and hotel offer) and I presently have my Citibank Rewards for supermarket, mobile and internet bills.

Am debating whether to get CCB HK eye Card for online and paywave (paywave including at supermarket), but don't know the bonus will carry on to 2017.
