Fubon Plat
Basic 1X: $12/AM
Overseas spending (by currency): 4X ($3/AM) (capped at 75% of your card limit per month)
Japan and Korea spending: 8X ($1.5/AM) (capped at $20,000 spending per month, can only register 2 months of Mar 2015-Feb 2016)
Taiwan spending: 20X ($0.6/AM) (capped at $5,000 per month and $10,000 in total of Mar 2015-Feb 2016)

Just about as good as using HSBC VS with 6X on overseas. But our HSBC 6X is usually allocated elsewhere.

Note that Fubon updates their T&C annually, and the next update is due on 28 Feb 2016. They normally won't announce extensions before the week before it's due.

And although I've waived the annual fee on my cards successfully for years without exception, their bonus points are only valid for 12 months after card expiry (with one month's grace). So you have to pay the min $250 redemption fee annually (I normally save my points until the month after card anniversary month) <-- given we're coming close to 28 Feb 2016 perhaps it's worthwhile holding up the application for this card until Fubon confirms they will be extending the 4X/8X multipliers for 2016;

Do we know what happens when you exceed the cap for Japan/Korea? Does the earn rate change to the usual overseas spending 4x rate?

We're doing a 2 week trip to Japan in late April, so the Fubon card looks attractive, provided the offer holds up past February.

Change back to 4x rate until you hit 75% of card limit per month. We frequency bust the 20K limit

Just a heads up for anyone with HSBC Visa Platinum. I had previously been assured by 2 HSBC staff, one at the time of application in branch, one subsequently by phone, that there was no annual fee for HSBC integrated account holders. Last month a 1,800 HKD annual fee winged its way on to my statement. I ought to have kept an eye on the small print but naively trusted what staff were telling me, last time I make that mistake. After a phone call to HSBC they've agreed to reimburse the fee, it's yet to show up on statement.

I just email them in Internet Banking, normally a month ahead of time.

Another Red Hot Salami offer extra $2.5/mile overseas 11/1-29/2

https://www.redhotoffers.hsbc.com.hk...seas-spending/
http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=17052

Sits on top of all the 2% tax payment/VS/6X if you have them.

Min transaction amount: HK$500 equivalent
Promotion cap: HK$6,500 equivalent

Registration hotline 8228 8088

P.S. http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...p?id=17052&p=1 #6 . I'm assuming online doesn't count. If anyone finds out about another 23 June memo pls post here.

These T&C mirror June Red Hot Overseas, where the T&C did not explicitly include online spending and mentioned needing original slip, only to be "clarified" by a 23rd June memo (http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...p?id=15190&p=7 #61) saying online spending counted for that promotion. I spend 9K+ paying THB to a Thai travel company online in reliance of the memo and received rebate successfully.

I asked two CS whether online count this time, and if they are not sure on the face of the T&C, whether a clarification memo exists. None appear to have been issued by marketing yet.

So for the time being assume it doesn't count until another clarification memo comes along.

No just ordinary integrated account. They should have known it wasn't Advance as both staff were looking at my account when telling me there was no annual fee.

Wouldn't let me do this as the next payment date was so close.

I think with the phone call you're safe. You'll be safer still if you've taken a file note. But if the refund has not hit your account on due date I'd just call and get someone to reacknowledge the waiver.

I thought it will count as long as the merchant is registered outside of HK and using non-HKD currency

For June 2015, same T&C as this time - online transaction does not appear to count due to T&C requirement to have original sales slip but there was a memo internally circulated in the call centre that non-HK/non-HKD online count notwithstanding that original sales slip requirement.

For Dec 2015-10 Jan 2016, the T&C explicitly stated non-HK/non-HKD online count.

For this promo the T&C reverted to the June 2015 version (requirement to have original sales slip). No memo means no online for the time being.

Sits on top of all the 2% tax payment/VS/6X if you have them.

Min transaction amount: HK$500 equivalent
Promotion cap: HK$6,500 equivalent

Registration hotline 8228 8088

P.S. http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...p?id=17052&p=1 #6 . I'm assuming online doesn't count. If anyone finds out about another 23 June memo pls post here.
Hi Percy,

Thanks, as always for the heads up. So I take it that each card is capped at HK 6,500 spending for this promo?

Also, assuming that I have registered for the overseas 6x benefit, how many HKD? = 1 Asia Mile?

Thank you.
