Difference between Marco Polo and Asia miles ?

Marco Polo fee ?
Hi, I read there is a fee for a Marco Polo account ? I never paid for a membership for a FF program before ..
I have an Asia miles account but Cathay Pacific seems to use Marco Polo as well.. If I want to become Silver tier, Gold tier..etc.. Does this require a Marco Polo account or could I just use Asia miles to reach these tiers ? I read there is a fee for a Marco Polo account ? I never paid for a membership for a FF program before ..
