How does CX decide its flight numbers?
I've always wondered how CX decides its new flight numbers
For example
we have CX 250-CX257, but when they introduced the 5th daily service, it was CX238/239 instead of CX258/259 (probably because it doesn't sound lucky in chinese?)
CX200-299 has traditionally been European destinations, but now we have CX 357/358 for MAN (which doesn't sound great in chinese either!) and CX 383/382 for ZRH. I wonder why they didn't use something like CX 228/218 etc for these new destinations?
Any thoughts?

Maybe because these two new routes are deemed as 'secondary' markets, CX decided to start utilizing the 3XX series...anticipating further growth?

Could those of us not in the know get a little lesson on why some numbers are good and others not? I know that 8 is an auspicious number.
I am still wondering why CX changed its YVR-HKG flight number from the lovely CX 839 to CX 837
At least its not CX 458 !

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B142 Safari/8536.25)
258= easy(2) no(5) properity(8) 259 isnt used too as a result (pairs with 258). Then again. 253 is also used
Curious why 21x and 22x isnt used tho

There's a few - but interesting CX also doesn't use too many X00 and X01 too.

2 "easy"
3 "birth/life"
4 "death"
5 "not"
6 "road" in context of 168 - one road to prosperity
7 - if mispronounced sounds like a male organ
8 - wealth
9 - enough
So good flight numbers are 828/838/888... etc no surprise these are the YYZ/YVR/JFK flights.

I thought 7 would mean 'definite' as it sounds similar to 10.
BTW, these phonetics work best in Cantonese. In Mandarin, it just sounds a bit strange...except for 8 of course.
