Welcome to The Wing-let - a lounge to discuss any topics.
This is a place for newbie questions, any topics semi-related to Cathay Pacific, where everyone is welcome to ask and discuss.
No question is too stupid, nothing is taken for granted, and anything about Cathay Pacific you were afraid to ask elsewhere, or weren't sure where to ask, you can ask here. Feel free to post here without fear of retribution for not using search.
As with the rest of FlyerTalk, discussions here should be constructive, courteous without aggression or personal attacks.
If anyone feels a good topic is posted here that should be broken out into a separate thread, please use the red triangle to report the post, and it will be considered for its own thread.

When booking an award flight on CX using BA avios, do I need to email/call anyone to confirm that the booking has been ticketed? I checked on the CX website and it says my ticket is confirmed, but does not have a seating assignment. My flight is for Dec 2014, HKG-EWR, the route starts service in March 2014. Should I call now, or call after the route starts servicing?
Also, BA says that I must bring the card I used to pay for the booking (the fees and taxes) to the airport for verification purposes... I have a feeling I might forget this. Is this mandatory?
Also, according to BA, this route is a two-cabin route serviced by 777 and according to CX, 77W. Do we know if this has the lie-flat J?

CX only wants to see your card when you pay CX directly. BA paid CX for your flight. If in doubt, just visit a CX ticket counter the next time you fly, as you can show the card at any time, not just at check-in. BA has never asked me for a card despite that message you saw.

Okay, good point. I guess it does not make sense to allow seat assignments 12 months before the flight, 3 months before the route even exists... When does seat assignment usually open up? I read a CX award thread in AA, and it says 6 months in advance, but that was from a few years back. I'm not sure if rules have changed.

Seat assignment can be done 365 (or 364?) days prior to your flight via TA / calling CX. 180 days for online DYI.

All CX long-haul flights have flatbed J. All B747s and A340s have the old version and all longhaul B777s and A330s have the new version. So, barring IRROPS, you will get the new seats
Happy travels!

I am trying to find availability and tax on a CCU-HKG flight a any date in March.. but the Dragon Air website is not giving me any result whatsoever.. do I need to have the required miles in my Asia Miles account, before I can see the results ??
If so, can someone check this and reply, please..

In your case, it's: INR 14,636.00 + INR 3,493.00.
30,000 Asia Miles for Economy.
50,000 Asia Miles for Business.
If I were you, I would just purchase a revenue ticket instead

I would advise you to take the card, since this is a BA ticket - the system may throw up a message requiring presentation of the card. Make a note in your diary or on a printout of the ticket reminding you to take the card (and which one it is)

Try pricing a revenue ticket on Dragon Air (or CX's) website. It will give you a good idea how much the surcharge + tax will come out to.
In your case, it's: INR 14,636.00 + INR 3,493.00.
30,000 Asia Miles for Economy.
50,000 Asia Miles for Business.

so just to confirm, dragonair/cathay pacific transfers the entire surcharge and tax on an award ticket to the consumer ??

Hey everyone, which is the best frequent flyer program to accumulate miles when flying cathay? I created an AA ffp account and put it in my booking details for now. Is it best to stay with AA or switch to Asia miles or avios?
Will be flying on cathay in February on an ex-mle revenue ticket to yyz.
I'm currently an aeroplan and amex MR account holder.

but then again, if you are going to be doing only this one flight with Cathay and then never fly them again soon, it makes no sense to accumulate in Asia Miles..
So, as I said in the begining, it depends on those two things..
