Thanks
night times are relatively less busy but again if you miss the flight, you are stuck for the night

A little tight, but doable.

I'd download the HKG app and track your CX flight to CGK. Upon arrival (I would assume you already have a printed BP with you), log on to the airport wifi and it'll tell you your departure gate; follow this by a mad dash through security to your gate.

Good luck

Too risky. MNL and HKG may get ATC/runway congestion which could result to your PR flight being delayed. I would suggest taking the earlier PR flight out of Manila. Normally I recommend more than 90 mins when connecting through HKG.

A specialist has spoken.
According to EF both flights have a typical delay of 30min. That time of night has a lot of longhaul flights departing, so quite busy.
As you arrive on PR on a separate ticket, you will not be protected for your CX flight. Everything could be fine, but this is a very risky situation.

Meanwhile I did the trip. PAL was late by 20 minutes or so, not too bad, but parked on a remote platform (so bus to terminal), which took time.
I decided to book SQ in the morning to reach Indonesia (via SIN), which worked out fine.

Anyway, your replies were appreciated! ^

this thread has made me feel a bit better. i want 2 bool two separate award tickets to get home from Cambodia with a 1hr 40 min layover in HKG.

Cathay Dragon into HkG and Cathay Pacific out of HKG ( to LAX ). We have only hand luggage. Sounds like we have plenty of time.

Doing it this way let me save 10k miles ( 2 tickets ) and just book the flight online instead of having to contact the call center.

On a sample of one flight, PR312 MNL to HKG used an apron gate last night, somewhere alongside the 30-something gates. As the plane stables overnight at HKG I would guess that this usually gets an apron gate so it doesn't sit on an airbridge overnight. Although the plane arrived on-time and nothing went wrong it was midnight before we got into the terminal. YMMV. Hope that is useful.

Wouldn’t XXX-HKG-LAX cost lesser Asiamiles than separate tickets? Also a wee bit lesser on the taxes..

I have an upcoming trip DPS-HKG-MNL (one ticket, flights all CX). The connection time is 50min and when making the booking on the CX website I kept getting a notification: 'this booking may lead to a short connection, the minimum connecting time at HKG is 50min'. Fair enough and I know from experience CX is pretty good at meeting pax at the gate and fasttracking / escorting through security if needed.

However, as the HKG-MNL is the last flight of the day what happens if I do miss that flight? Will CX put me up in a hotel for the night or expect me to hang around in the terminal overnight? Economy ticket, oneworld emerald status FWIW. Thanks.

Based on limited experience, I think you may be on your own if things get hairy out of DPS; I probably won't expect CX to put you up in a hotel in the event that you don't make your connection. I may be wrong, so DO update the thread.

That being said, the night flights to MNL are usually delayed (sometimes considerably delayed).

From my experience, CX will put you in a hotel, although I'm not certain if this is still the case if the delay is caused by weather.

Looking at a 70 minute connection UA from ORD connecting to CX to TPE. Ticket sold by UA. Any issues? Can I use online check in to get my CX boarding pass? Will not have checked bags.

Would you book the following?

KA 937 (PEK-HKG) arriving 1105am to KA 378 (HKG-OKA) departing 1210pm

I've checked flightaware and KA 937 usually gets in a few minutes early BUT it was late by 4-6 hours two times earlier this month (presumably due to weather).

KA only flies to OKA once per day. In the event of a missed connection, would KA rebook on HX (ugh) or the next day (more ugh)? Thanks
