Two new 77Ws delivered recently, so we could expect a 744 to leave anytime soon,

No worries, let's start a writing quest to ask CX to consider buying 748s...

Not necessarily, given the commensurate ramp-up in 77A services (two extra to YYZ, four extra to JFK, four extra to Milan in July and seven extra to ORD come September).

Just wondering if you have some idea of the rate of 77D delivery, if you think LAX and LHR could both be server by mid/late 2011? Seems to me that it might be quite a lot longer before that's the situation. Even by May 2011, only one out of about eight HKG-JFK flights appear to be 77D.

pleasant surprise

We flew from Hong Kong to JFK on flight CX888 on Wed the 28th and the new business class seating made for a comfortable ride. Our seat assignments were not changed and my husband and I were now seated across the aisle from each other. Wonderful service.

When does CX Plan to retrofit the older 777-300ER'S and 330-330's with the new style seats ? Also, when do they expect this process to be completed ?

Update: retrofitting of the 77A will begin shortly, with six 77As being retrofitted by the end of 2011. It sounds like (although this is unclear) that the 77A fleet will be retrofitted first before retrofitting begins on the 33B (which is itself scheduled to commence late 2012).

I'm flying CX881 from LAX-HKG on 2/29/2012 business class. Is it safe to assume that I'll be in the new business class seats by then?

Ummm be the person working at CX that makes that decision?

You can search up the dates that you want to fly and check the seat map. The 77D doesn't have row 27.

From this month's CX World:

Retrofitting will also begin in August starting with the Boeing 777-300ERs and followed by the A330s in mid-2012.“This retrofit will be performed
in the TAECO facility in Xiamen and by end 2011 we expect to complete six 777-300ERs"
So with nine new aircraft – six 777-300ERs and the three A330s – we will have 15 aircraft operating with the new product by the end of the year

The seating chart is not available online, so I called in. The agent on the phone couldn't pull up the seating chart either. Not sure what that means, but I'm just going to remain hopeful.

Guess I'll have to climb the corporate ladder at Cathay within a couple months.
