I'm extremely angry. I know someone who's on this flight and they phoned up CX, and got no proper answer on why the flight was being delayed like this. Instead they were put on a waiting list for the earlier flights and it's just really poor customer service. "Operational reasons" is simply not a good enough excuse!!!

I suspect it must be their own internal problems otherwise they would be more than happy to assign blame to HKIA or BAA if it was some problem at either airport.

However, I wonder what kind of problem drags on for 4 days like this. Definitely unacceptable to give no reason, though, which is effectively what they've done.

Whatever the problem is it must be getting worse as when I first saw the notice it was only two days (25/26th)... and I'm booked on it on 2nd July.

This has happened before (a search might turn up the old thread). I seem to remember the feeling was that CX had used up all its early landing slots at LHR and didn't want to pay the very large penalties for arriving too early.

I also feel that is the case, but why couldn't CX schedule that accordingly? Did they think that they could buy extra slots somewhere?

Confirmed news:

"Boeing mandated a pylon inspection across the 747-400 fleet world-wide. Cathay Pacific have to take aircraft out of service to carry out the checks and, as a result, both CX255 HKG/LHR tonight and tomorrow (26th and 27th June) will be re-scheduled to depart later in the morning."

Thanks - what's the source? Couldn't see anything on Cathay or Boeing sites...

The closest news I can find is this:

startelegram.typepad.com/sky_talk/boeing

However, it talks about pylons on 767s, not 747s. Maybe Boeing realized the problem is bigger than just 767s?

If this issue is related to the 744s, then why only the 744s that are used to operate CX255?

Both late night departure flights (251 & 255) are normally very full. I doubt if CX can switch to smaller aircrafts.

Aren't you flying JFK? There is no 74A on that route.
