Nope.

You need to be at least an elite MPC member. Green members don't get it and neither do plain Asia Miles members.

OW elite members are excluded from this upgrade too.

However if there is space they will upgrade the partners of the birthday boy/girl, regardless of FFP programme.

Would love to hear more recent experiences with birthday upgrades. Surely someone's birthday must have past in the time since last November!

Sure. Have seen it work 3 times this year - always with the offer to also upgrade one companion. Have NEVER not seen it work.

Edit to add: Last experience was end of June

Just curious, does this “benefit” extend to OW elite members of other OW airlines?

Pretty sure MPC members only, but have not made the test since I don’t have such travel companions. Not sure if status level is relevant either, but 2 of the 3 mentioned cases were SL only. Not sure about GR. Do a status match, become SL and you’re golden?

I don’t think CX will get any personal details from you if you are a Oneworld member. So they won’t know your birthday.

Thanks for the info! So it’s some kind of MPC only benefit, though flying exactly on the birthday may not be always possible.

Correct. It is MPC only. This I know from CX.

Based on anecdotes on here, it seems to be GO and DM only. This I don't know for sure, just reading the forum.

I intentionally booked my mum a flight on her birthday next week in Y. She is a SL and the flight at the moment is wide open in all classes. Will report back

Being old Chinese, she doesn't celebrate according to the western calendar birthday anyway, so the birthday on her passport means nothing to her.

Sure they have the birthday info from passport info (SSR DOCS).
