Do Students Get Excess Luggage?

I am flying YYZ-HKG in a few weeks to study abroad in Hong Kong for four months. I will almost certainly be over my allowance for checked baggage (I'm thinking 3 pieces instead of 2.) I was wondering if students get any excess allowance? On the CX website there were some student fares that came with extra allowance but my ticket is an award ticket.

If I have to pay excess is the rate still US $ 110 a bag (not so bad actually...)? Also, can the extra bag weigh up to 32kg (if I am travelling in J?)

Thanks!
Cheers,

you would only get the excess luggage if your ticket is a student one. So in your case, you wont be able to have the excess luggage limit.
Not sure about the pay excess, but the weight would not be 32kg. The max they allow would be 30 (according to their rule), but it really depends on the check in agent, usually they would allow some kg over, max they would allow is within 4kg difference.

He is correct, all the student fares tickets are ex-HKG only. And in OP's case, there shouldn't be 32KG either per pc.

Just to clarify : I am definately allowed 32kg per piece on my first 2 pieces as per the CX website.

Then my third piece would be allowed a max weight of 30kg? or 23kg? or 32kg?

Thanks

Dont think there would be a limit on your 3rd piece, since they charge by calculating the extra kg that you have as your overweight. And I can say the charge could well over your expected one, as they charge with per kg. Even if they do not have a limit on your extra, I would advice not to risk it, as they can actually denied to take on another if they think it will make the plane too heavy to fly.

Stated from CX- "Acceptance of any bag weighing more than 32 kg (70lbs) is subject to prior approval and notification upon booking/reservation. Overweight items will be repacked or split into lighter units during check-in otherwise will not be accepted for carriage."

You can call the relevant CX office of your departure location, presumably you have read the CX's info online. Everyone has a different case with this matter and we don't know what fare class are you traveling (or if it is an award ticket)...

I called CX and a very unsure sounding agent told me CAD $ 125 per extra piece weighing up to 32kg if I'm in Business.
