Consequences of late posting of miles

Hi folks,

I recently took a few flights on CX and AA. Now I was near the threshold of making the next MPC level and per my understanding, the flights after the one which takes me to a higher level count for requalification.

Some of my flights on AA posted quite late. As a consequence, a transpac flight which should have counted for my requalification is counting as the one which qualified me to that level.

I wrote to the MPC service centre and got a response which basically said stuff it! " I do hope for your understand that we are unable to count this Club credits towards your new membership as all Club credits have already reset to zero into your new membership period."

(great English, btw, with "hope for your understand"!!!)

Now the miles involved aren't a terrible lot, but this whole attitude is pretty annoying. Basically I just get the feeling that the person on the other end just finds it convenient to send an apology email rather than actually do something!

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the "Club". I got trapped in the same way with a transpac flight in A which I was counting would push me into a higher tier and instead became the first miles to requalify for that same tier. I did the same as you did, got the same "stuff it" attitude, and since then stopped putting my MPC number and flow everything to AA now. I only build up MPC miles through my credit card, which I then use for upgrades.

Some schemes count the date of the flight, some the date that it posts. There are pros and cons to each. I, and others that I know of, have used the MPC way of doing things to our advantage on occasion to delay flights to the next qualification year. You just need to be aware of the rules and work them in the best way for your situation.

I currently have the same situation in BAEC.

I had plenty of TPs for next level (Silver), but the system missed some activity and showed that I hadn't flown enough "BA Qualifying flights" even though I had (most of my TPs came from AA, CX, QF etc., not BA)
I did an RTW mostly on AA,CX and LAN which all should have given me TPs for next tier, but since then I flew BA HKG-LHR which was the flight that the system shows as giving me Silver.

The original flights have now been credited, but after my RTW, so all those extra TPs were lost on a "Points Reset" (-905) :(

I now have to go through all flights, in order and show that I should have got Tier status in June, and all my July RTW flights should have Tier bonus on the miles, and all Tier points should be in this (new) year.

Hope BA don't give me the same response as you got from CX. :td:

As far as your miles/points are concerned, I would print them out along with the poor response you got, show them to the Lounge pursor next time you're in the HKG Wing and ask her who you should write to (a name, not "Customer Services dept"). It may be that dates are counted as "date posted" not "Date flown" but I think you should have the points credited in the order you flew them.
Good luck

You can think all you want but the T&Cs of the MPC scheme are very clear (I've no idea about BAEC). I'm happy with them the way they are and have used them to my advantage on a number of occasions (as have others I know).

Fair enough if it's in the T&Cs. Just my opinion.
If that's the way they do it, then MPO could delay posting points and miles to the disadvantage of the pax. Just seems that it could be a bit unfair towards a good customer who uses their service a lot.

AA miles should be in your account between 4-10 days (at least should be > 2 weeks), unless something goes wrong and you have to request for missing miles.

You can ask for an extension of the requalification period.

Fair comments, all.

To be honest - I don't really care much for the miles since the differential aint much - just that the response email seemed to be in a not so great tone.

Christep - thanks for pointing out that this is actually the manner defined for earning Club Miles under MPC. If you have a moment, could you point me to relevant the section of the T&Cs? Just that I could not find anything in the T&Cs in the membership guide or online about this.

Thanks!

Actually it's not in the T&Cs as such - it is printed on the top of your monthly statement:

Crediting date of your activity is used to determine your current membership status.

Cool, Thanks!
