Excess Baggage Question

My wife has been in Bali for 3 weeks and has been shopping her heart out. She now has the original suitcase, a small, less than carry on make up case, a new suitcase and a new duffle bag. Apparently the total weight of the 2 suitcases and the duffle is around 180 lbs. She is flying dps-hkg-yyz in j on Tuesday. The suitcases come in at max limit each. If she can't get the duffle bag (40lbs) on as carry on. What is it likely to cost her. I can't find any specific information on the CX website as to charges.

Can anyone help

I tried doing a google search, but all the information I found just seems to just speculate based on other airlines' policies.

Barring someone on this forum having some experience-based knowledge of the topic (which someone probably has), and even so, I'd call CX, because their policy seems to incorporate weight, size, number of pieces, etc. It seems a little convoluted and involved, so calling may really be the best option.

I think it is highly irresponsible to even consider taking a bag this weight on board, the limits are there for a reason and in Bali there are tons of shipping agents who will send it for you cheaply. How would feel if you one of your nearest and dearest had a 40lb bag fall on them in turbluance ?
