How to avoid "non-eligible" Y fare classes?
For Cathay Pacific and Dragonair Economy Class, only fare classes Y, B, H, K, M, L and V are eligible for earning Asia Miles. |

My company travel agent handles my bookings and i'm noticing a few more flights I've been on have not qualified for points/sectors (I hate N fares now!!). Do you have tips on how avoid these? I obviously can't request them to "book me a more expensive ticket". For example, would booking flights very close to the travel date help?

When you call your agent, tell them specifically that you want V class. The increase in fares will likely be so marginal that your company won't be mad at you even if they found out.
What a right pain, though, alc16. :( |
Check your availability here before calling your agent:
http://seatcounter.com/ Only if you can, juggle around the date that N is zero out as I usually do. Some companies do not even allow their employees to pay fare differences. I am not sure about yours though. |
My TA knows that nothing below V is acceptable. ;)
Convince the powers to be that flexibility provided by V class and above tickets is worth the price difference if nothing else helps. |
Thanks for your suggestions - very useful.
The TA are under instructions to quote either the cheapest prices of full flexibility fares but i don't qualify the latter. I guess our TA's 'flexibility' in the finding quotations depends on being able to understand anything that's not black & white! I may just have to cancel an existing booking and then rebook a few days prior to travel....:p |
