What really counts for Marco Polo and when?
Okay, after scouring the CX website and this forum, I'm still left slightly confused about what exactly counts toward Marco Polo. My situation is the following:
I have several thousand AM miles (CX and others) but no Marco Polo membership. If I sign up for Marco Polo now, what would actually count toward silver and subsequent statuses? 1) All my existing AM miles 2) Only those AM miles from airlines that are also part of OneWorld 3) Only the CX (or Dragon) portions of my AM miles 4) None because it doesn't start counting until membership is paid - after which only OneWorld or any AMs count? I have well over 100k miles floating around among over half a dozen ff programs but have not been strategic about this - to the point that I have no elite status anywhere and that thousands of my miles expire on me. To make matters worst, I just went to the UK from HKG on BA and got NO miles b/c it was a cheap fare (I had no idea). I also just completed a 16k roundtrip to the US on NW and didn't realize they had a DEQM offer. AAHHHHH!!! Now I have over 70k more miles planned between now and October, including 2 round trips b/w HKG and the US. The rest will be b/w HKG and the rest of asia pacific. I really need to manage this smarter because I'm leaving so much on the table and was hoping to get some advice from you guys. Some of you made a science out of this... wow! Thanks in advance! |
Offically, what counts as MP Club miles are eligible miles flown in CX/OW from time of sign up.
Unoffically, all eligible miles flown on CX/OW carriers from the past year counts. You should definitely sign up now, and will the future traveling patterns you mentioned (as always, assuming eligible fare classes), you should reach Gold in a few months. |

I think no one can answer how much you can have before you sign up ....
