How to avoid MPC joining fee?

Are there ways to avoid paying the US$50 MPC joining fee? I live in Shanghai. I fly KA/CX about twice per month in V or Y and have BA Silver. Thanks!

You can join asiamiles and put your earning to asiamiles. Once you get enough miles/sectors, they may invite you to MPC silver status. However this might only happen after say 35,000 miles or 25 sectors, meaning that you will have wasted 5,000 miles / 5 sectors that could have been put towards gaining Gold status.

If you are sure you want to be a MPC member, you are best to pay the fee.

Next time, when you do fly J or F, either on paid/award ticket or being op-up'ed, get a MPO application form from the ISM, attached your BP with the filled form, then you do not need to pay the US$50.

Of course there is always the elusive status match opportunity. BA Silver more likely to MPC Silver if at all.

Does CX do status match within alliance?
I think one might have better chance if matching from SQ PPS to MPC.

Maybe I am the only one? ;) Yes, they did.

I think paying the US$50 is actually worth it. Everything makes up for it if you get op-up once already!

You can join for free if you apply for CX Asiamiles credit card. It is available in many Asian countries like Hong Kong and Taiwan. Don't know if it is available in China.
