KA - Taking an Earlier Flight Question

I have a J ticket on KA from PVG-HKG-BLR on the 18:20 flight (eTicket issued on AA stock).

Is KA flexible about allowing a passenger to switch to an earlier flight, provided they arrive before the 40 minute check-in time and there is space available? I'm arriving on AA 289 at 15:05 and would like to try for the 17:20 or - if the stars align - the 16:20 flight.

This type of change is usually a is a problem on European airlines and I'm interested to know how flexible KA is in these scenarios. Is this something that the First Class (OW Emerald Here) check-in agent can handle, or will I be sent to a separate ticket counter/office

KA is normally flexible, but there also depends on the fare rules. In this case, there is a potential problem of checked luggage. Please see if you can change the flight when you check in AA289.

Thanks for the info goo to know KA is flexible. Luckily I will have to claim my bags in PVG to clear Chinese customs then make my way from T1 to T2 to check in with KA so the checked luggage will not be an issue.

Are the segments on different tickets?

I was just about to start a similar thread, but your response makes me doubt I can standby for an earlier flight. My situation is a little different:

Confirmed on 3:30pm HKG-PVG flight, but would like to take earlier flight. However, the fare rules state that the fare is only valid for a select list of flight numbers, which are all 3:30pm or later.

Any chance the check-in agent may overlook this at HKG, or are they always very cautious and review all the fare rules? I know that US airline agents never check, so even if your fare states must travel say, 6pm or later, they will let you standby for earlier flights. I have a feeling that KA at HKG is not as generous.

It sounds like one of the booking class L or V fares where the first segment is a HKG outbound flight must be after a certain time or of certain flight numbers. My feeling is that you cannot change the flight once ticketed. Hopefully someone who did that before can answer.

That's exactly what it is - am hoping that the agent won't notice. :)

Perhaps I should try checking in at the In-Town Check-in first then if not, I will try the airport!

The flights are all on the same PNR and same ticket number. It was sold as an ORD-PVG-HKG-BLR ticket.

Most likely you can take an earlier flight to HKG.
