From HKG to DTW

I want to stick with CX but it appears Northwest is the only airline has the fastest connection from HKG to DTW via Tokyo Frankly, I don't want to fly nwa. Any suggestions?

well...if you're flying full fare, I think you can always fly HKG-SFO or HKG-LAX on CX first, and then connect to SFO/LAX-DTW on NW ? total timing shouldn't be that bad ?

(in fact, not necessarily full fare, but you can buy the 2 tickets separately ? but of course won't be as cheap as one NW ticket, and in case of delay etc the connection could be problematic)

if you want "fast" (i.e. no more than 1 connection?) - I don't think you have too many choices not using NW at all...or maybe via ORD on UA ?

It depends how price sensitive you are. If you absolutely want the shortest route, then you've got three options:

1. CX to SFO and then NW to DTW--18hr 5min
2. NW via NRT--18hr 15 min
3. CO via EWR--19hr 37min

I actually flew HKG-DTW-LHR once a few years ago (don't ask why), and my routing was CX HKG-YYZ, YYZ-DTW (about an hour's flight) and then BA DTW-LHR. Pretty good routing, but air fares ex-YYZ will be a lot higher than via SFO/LAX/NYC
