Cathay Suspends New Business Class Conversion
I wonder if any one can shed any light on this? In the early part of this year CX was converting 2 747's a month with the new product in July this dropped to one, since the completion of B-HUI on the 9th August, the conversion has stopped.
|
Where is the source that the conversion has stopped?
|
If this is indeed the case then the reason is either the obvious one (i.e. a belated rethink reacting to poor customer feedback, and just like the NRBC), or CX is bleeding cash and chooses to kill the lesser of the important projects.
I can see Mr. Christep is already reaching for the champagne! :D |
By the way, according to the CX website, there are 16 converted 747s, and 7 remaining to be converted. If they really are suspending the conversion, then they are doing it pretty late in the game.

And by the way, I don't think it's part of cost cutting. Their new product is fine in F and Y. |
Just because no 744s have been sent for conversion does not mean that the entire conversion process has stopped permanently.
Until a source is provided, I don't see a point in the discussion. |
I wish there was a "?" in the title of this thread. You can see that it has become a very frequently read thread in just one day.
|
frankly I was indeed quite excited when I saw the title... ;)
|
well according to http://antonakis.ca/acars.php?page=request B-HME and B-LAC were flown to TAECO during August as CX3388 and have yet to come out. Perhaps there is not enough hangar space/labour resources available for CX to convert.
|
B-LAC is a A330...so the A330 conversion has begun perhaps.
|
One of my 74A flights (AKL-HKG) in November has just reverted back to the old config... maybe an indication of conversions slowing down?

See my Thread on HKG-YVR-JFK Aircraft Change. The 747 that operated some days of the week between HKG-DPS has also been replaced by 773. With reductions in services i.e. LAX, less aircraft, and this means Gaz Guzzling 747's are going to be needed. Suspect those 7 remaining 747's are either to be sold or off to The Desert. |
747 Flights to CDG were supposed to be operated with new config in september and have been reverted back to 747. Also, advertisements for the launch of 74A to Paris have disapeared from the CX French website.

No need to convert them if they are going to be laid up and replaced by 777's
