To get these people loyal to CX and hope that they will climb up the ladder.

I am climbing up the ladder as a Gold in a month after I'm done with my HKG-SYD-HKG trip. Guess CX did catch my loyalty. Isn't DM/GO/SI just a name afterall? Maybe some people should look into the PPS club if they're into that superiority club game.

quite a lot..14,079 to be specific, but i thats because i do a lot of short haul flights thou..

My best guess is that you should call up MPC to see if they can extend your membership deadline for another month or two, as that's quite a lot of miles that you lack of, why not fly another short-haul to the cheapest destination, say china/thailand? When valuating profile sharing, i don't think MPC is that nice to us.

I'm thinking of making a short flight, but extension call might be a good idea.. let me make my flight back so i'm 1 sector short before i ask for anything.. :D

Apart from the published MPC benefits which are rather good, I have already experienced several pleasant "hidden" ones during my first year of CX status.

In that sense I can well understand if members moan about "watering down" the program. The criteria are also not especially demanding compared to some other loyalty programs, no need at all to loosen them up.

as long as you already have the upcoming flight details on your MPC account, you can call them up, they should notice that you are only 1 sector short. Good luck on your call and do report us back. I'm going to be a Gold too after my Sydney trip next month.

I'm not sure what you mean by "watering down". Being a SIL is easy for MPC but I don't agree that GO/DM is that easy when comparing with other FFPs that offer the same kind of quality. I'm confused about what point are you trying to make... At the beginning you commented about the good benefits MPC provided but then you complained about the program being loosen up. Do we have to be selfish and think that the existing members get all and not let new/potential members to enjoy the same level of service that we enjoy?

Not at all. I just wanted to say that the criteria is not that difficult for status so shortcuts should only apply in selected cases.

I would like to echo that: if the silver card criteria is waived on revenue consideration that is more acceptable. If you get silver card just because you apply for the CX AE card, as the thread suggested at the beginning, it is certainly diluting the value of the premium tiers of MPC.

That I agree, it is not fair for the regular passengers who actually paid and flew on CX to gain their status just because their annual salaries are high enough to qualify as a CX AMEX Elite credit card owner. Even a complimentary MPC green membership I find it is unfair for the other green members who paid the $50 enrollment fee. I think CPLP should review why is there such an enrollment fee and what is that good for (especially when just being the CX credit member will waive the enrollment fee)? Maybe someone can better answer that.

Oh well, I called up MPO today and finally asked them why my wife was given the complimentary Silver status.

It's nothing to do with me crossing the 180k again this year (previous rumours suggested complimentary spousal status for DM earning above 180k club miles, a very nasty and misleading rumour indeed!)

It's nothing to do with the new Amex card either.

As tedhl rightly suggested, it is because of revenue and premium class (full J) that earned her the Silver card. Her trips to London and Dubai costed ~HK$60k + $~HK$25K in air ticket alone. I guess if one is desperate enough one can spend that money on 10 HKG-LHR V class tixs and become a DM!

Fair enough, just as how I got my SIL card in my mailbox too, i was surprised too at that moment.
