What is the ongoing construction at HKIA?
It has been bugging me but I keep forgetting to post:
1.) On the north side of the airport outside the gates (south of the northern runway, on the east side) there have been cranes and concrete going on for many months now basically right there where planes taxi to park for the gates...does anyone know what is being built? 2.) Also in the middle area, west of the gates but still between the new runways (just east of where the Oasis planes are still parked)...there is a lot of dirt being moved around and construction equipment. Anyone know? |

I *believe* that would be the private jet terminal. |
2) would be the early foundation stage of the new departure gates terminal which will be reached by the shuttle train (the tunnel is already built I understand).
The construction inside Terminal 1 at the immigration area is to reconfigure security checkpoint and the immigration booths. Basically the order will be switched .. go thru security first then immigration. Wonder if CX will plump for a fast track channel?? Highly doubt it :( |

That's some description!

Personally, I am not sure about the first question but if I'm not mistaken, the second one is the new hanger that is being built for HAECO. However, you were mentioning a lot of dirt for the second place but the hanger is been in construction for over 9 months, I know this because a family relative is actually building the hanger at the moment.

The construction by rwy 25R is the new two-storey North Satellite Concourse, which will have ten bridge-served stands for small aircraft (A320/B737) size. It has been signposted in a couple of HKIA annual reports from about 2005 - google search for North Satellite Concourse and you will get the link to the report, which includes an architect's impression of the completed building.
