Which 747-400 (version 1, 2 or 3) flies CX252

Seatguru lists three types of 747-400s in the CX fleet, with slightly different seating configurations.

Does anyone know how I can work out which type will be flying CX252?

I actually have a similar problem trying to work out which Airbus will be flying the CX163. Is it the A330-300 two or three class?

I'm sure there's an easy way to work this out, I just don't know what it is :) I hope someone can help.

Use seatexpert.com, not seatguru for CX. The names seatexpert assigns the configurations will match up with the CX label.

Thanks, that's an interesting site. But (maybe I'm being thick) I still can't work out which plane I'll be on - I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'Cathay label'?

Seatexpert labels everything by the CX label - Check your flight online and see what it says for the aircraft. For instance, "333" or "330" or "74A" or "74J", etc.

You can find this by looking online with CX - either go to your reservation or just check the schedule. For instance if it says "333" that's an A330 with 3 class configuration and the old config, if it says "74J" that's a 747 with more business class seats all in the old configuration, if it says "74A" that has the new seats.

Don't be fooled by the "Premium" in the 74J though...unfortunately that just means there's more premium seats, but it's still the old configuration. The new configurations (herringbone J class, very large F class, AVOD in Y class) are solely in:

1.) 77A (long-haul 777s, only flying to New York and Toronto currently)
2.) 33B (A330s flying to Sydney exclusively I think, although others here may correct me)
3.) 74A (reconfigured 747, being introduced to every route where the 747 was originally. London and North America seem to be the prime recipients of these...the full reconfiguration effort should be done by the end of this year I think)

No chance of a J meaning anything with the flights I'm looking at - they turned up as the standard old 744 and 333. Still, it's good to see where the seats are.
