Cathay Pacific First Class Info Requested

Hi everyone,
Has anyone by chance flown with Cathay Pacific in First Class & particularly between Toronto & Hong Kong ?

The general info on the Web touts Cathay as the absolute best.

Also, is the difference between Business Class & First Class that big ?

I have paid almost 10K for my ticket but now want to have my Girlfriend come along. The thought of another 10K makes me shiver.

Whatever info anyone can shed or direct me to would be most appreciated.

Best regards, Shawn

I've flown YYZ-HKG on CX in both directions in both the J and F cabins on the 777

F is substantially more comfortable than J in my view -- it is a great seat with tons of room and lots of privacy. The difference is big.

Whether it is worth the extra $$$ is in the eye of the beholder. I find the J cabin a little odd looking and difficult during meal service but on a long-haul flight it is perfectly comfortable.

One thing I hate about the new J is that groups travelling together basically have to stand up to talk to (or worse take pictures of) each other -- I often see this at the start of the flight and given the angle and exposure of the J seats it is quite irritating.

Does anyone have the menu for yyz/hkg?

i was thinking if you have enough points for a companion ticket..... i thought companion tickets are quite high up in the priority list among awards. you need to have bought a F/A ticket in the first place! (rather than J/C/D/I or even nothing at all)

agree...I always think companion tickets are quite a good choice, esp when used with e.g. some segments of RTW tickets which are somewhat less expensive already. e.g. on some US/Europe trips I have, I often start in TPE/BKK, buy a RTW ticket (which is cheaper than roundtrip J/F anyway), and include HKG-xxx-HKG segments in the end as a "free sidetrip". and use this in the future as my leisure trip, by redeeming companion ticket on this side roundtrip for my wife to go with me.

Companion Ticket

Forgive my complete ignorance. What is a "companion ticket". If I purchase one full fare on this flight.... does that mean I can request an upgrade ?

Would greatly appreciate your guidance.
Tks

It is a ticket for a companion, for free.

Does a companion ticket book into the normal frequent flyer fare class, or is it any available seat (since the is already a paid business or first ticket)?

I'm looking at trying to use some Amex points (converted to Asiamiles) Syd-CDG, and am happy to buy one J or F ticket if points can be used for the other. However dates aren't flexible so if a companion ticket books into normal frequent flyer ticket fare buckets, I don't like my chances.

Most asian TAs have special fares on CX Biz and First Class to asia. You should check those out.

Some cc have companion fares as well, but don't know which one to direct you to.

You might find it in this thread: 2008 F menus. There is also a thread for business class menus. They are stickied at the top fo the forum.
