DM Seat Blocking

Does one need to request CX/MPO to block an empty seat in Eco, or do they automatically do it for DM's (subject to availability)?

One of my friends who is a DM had the two seats beside him blocked after he OLCI'd. Of course, the flight was only about ~70% full.

You need to request.

I have requested that the whole row be blocked for me - I've done that as a lowly silver card holder. Of course the flight wasn't busy.

To obtain DM do you need to prove that you're antisocial, or does that come later?

;)

cxfan1960 May 19, 2008 7:41 am

You can start to become antisocial at GO, as I heard that GO can do that too (I have never done that when I was a GO though);).

Of course, if you are a 1P/1K on UA, they want you to be antisocial, they will automatically block the seat next to you. I was forced to be so antisocial that once I had to sit alone on the other side of the aisle so that at least my family was only across the aisle from me.:D

Seat Block

On the first flight after I became DIAMOND, they blocked the whole row, but then a guy swa wmpty seats and you guess. Anyway it is difficoult to sleep on a 77W in Y, even having a whole row for yourself, that dman bulge on the seat belt.

I have never asked in advance, but when I check in at the airport, usually a seat next to me is automatically blocked.

got entire row of 4 - thanks!

kchika May 20, 2008 3:49 am

Beware - I was assigned a G seat last time and was supposed to have the whole row of 4 to myself (flight was only 30% full), but Mr. Selfish decided to sit in D and asked me to move to one of the rows of 3 in the back. I was in no mood to argue with him and moved myself...

It really depends the flight capacity.

You have to be quite lucky to block any seat on busy route like HKG -> LAX/SFO

FYI. I am DM as well.

i've been in that situation b4. your approved seat blocking is in the flight manifest, call the FA / ISM and they will sort out the other fellow.

this is good to know...I also have been in that situation before where my seat blocking was then taken up by someone else...(but I also remember once where it's one of the FAs who asked the other pax to take that seat, maybe she didn't check the manifest beforehand?)

I lost my blocked seat once. The gate agent reassigned a passenger to the blocked seat. There were other seats available. In this situation, this person was flying with an old couple and they were transiting in HKG. The old couple ordered special meals and could not speak English. So this person had to take care of them. It was understandable, but I lost the blocked seat.
