Becoming Diamond
 

Hello to everybody, I currently have 112000 Marco Polo miles and I am flying MCO-LAX-HKG at the end of april. I have a couple of questions. Will Cathay upgrade me on LAX-HKG as this flight will put me over the 120000 miles? On the way back, a week later, being DIAMOND, will I be able to access the First class lounge at HKG? Thank you

You are promoted to a Diamond status after qualifying miles credited.
Usually, 2 days after a flight.

You don't have a Diamond member card.
But CX computer system should recofinze you are diamond.
You may ask first class checkin counter agent at Hong Kong airport.

They should know your status, especially if you can see it online. I made Gold on my usual JFK-HKG-JFK route, but getting to HKG pushed me over the threshold. On my return, I hadn't yet received the card, but the check-in agent congratulated me on my upgrade to Gold tier.

I do not know about now. In the past, the status at the time of booking would appear, but you can call MPC to update it before the flight. Alternatively, if the check-in agent is not aware of that, you can ask him/her to check on it and they will be able to print your BP & lounge card with the updated information.

Anyway, as long as the Club miles that pushes your status to Diamond is posted, regardless of what is on the booking and whether you have the new card, CX will recognise you as a Diamond member.

I had an incident when i was u/g to diamond stats, i flew BKK-HKG that threw me over the 120K and of course the computer system showed the diamond status. However, the check in system was still showing gold on my return leg 3 days later. this is because the check-in system requires 4-7 days to be updated (this is what MPC) told me. However, I told MPC (i called them at the check in) to please infom BKK Check in that I was a Diamond, and sure enough when i got to the lounge, The attendant there handed me a new BP showing me as a Diamond as well as my first U/G as a Diamond....Short flight, but felt good to acheive the new status...

So I suggest you ensure that MPC put a message in your PNR that you are a diamond, so that if the check in system doesnt show it, the remaks will and if they are u/g members on that flight, you get the priority that you deserve....

Thank you. But, now it becomes interesting. I am supposed to fly HKG-JFK after I become DIAMOND. There still lots of open seats, maybe if I get lucky........

Op-ups are rare if your cabin is not full and if you are not flying on your birthday. However, if your cabin does become full, your chance is higher as a DM.

In any event, you can call MPC to see if they can update your status for that booking. Some upgrades are processed prior to check-ins, so it is better that your status is updated by then.
