compensation on the re-routing
Before joing this forum, I ever experienced the re-routing with CX. I went to the check-in counter very late but still within the check-in window. I was told the Economy seat was full. Obviously the flgiht was over booked. I was offered HK$30 drink voucher to have a cup of coffee. When I came back, I was told that the seat was still unavailable. My flight was from HKG to SFO. They finally decided to re-route me to LAX and then to SFO. As compensation, they found me a business class seat at the HKG-LAX leg. They also gave me HK$1500 and voucher (lounge access and luggage allowance for future use) as compensation.
My question is: is it a good deal? If no, how much more should they give me? Thanks, tylorcl |
I think it is an excellent deal. I will take it straight away.

This maybe the best deal you can get! I would also take it in a heart bear.

You went from a Econ Seat to a lie flat, went from a mediocre one tray meal to a multi tray meal. Got $1500 to spend and some vouchers to boot. pretty good in my book...
the question is.. how much time did you lose as a result of this rerouting? sometimes if you need to be there, you need to be there.. and there's no amount of comp that can replace that |
WOW This is an excellent deal and I am sure if they offered this to other pax who have checked in and haver seats they will at least get 10 voluteers.
|
For compensation like that, I'd check in at the last minute every time...:p
|
Excellent deal!! It just never happens to me. I never had a chance to deboard. I think I prefer HKD1500 + op-up with re-routing to just an op-up.
|
Its pretty sad these days that even after whatever the airline offers as a form of compensation for a little inconvenience, that people always want more.

Way more than you would get with many other airlines. BA would not have offered anything like this - I hope that you we able to take up the offer.

Of course, I took the offer right away. I also think that is a good deal. That is why I think CX is best in service. The other thing I did not mention is that I did not give the upgrade right away. CA just offered me the voucher with three benefits I can use in the future 1. upgrade to business 2. lounge acess 3. baggage allowance. I actually asked I can accept the offer if they can find the business class for the re-routing long leg. And they managed to get one seat for me.
I kept telling other people who will travelling abroad from China to use Cathay and never use China mainland airline. The fact is that I ever experienced with China Southern PEK to SZX and the flight was over-booked and I was told they can put me to the next available flight and compensate me 10% of the fare I paid. I actually refused. |

In fact, when I returned from SFO to Hong Kong, I also experienced the overbooking. Same situation at the check-in, I was told no available seat and was offered US$3 drink voucher. Couple of minutes later when I checked with CX, I was told there is a seat for me. I think they did ask some pax who have already checked in and offered something to them. I do not know how they pick up the pax. |
Seems that what OP had was 'standard'. Two years ago I was booked on CX257 (HKG-LHR) which was overbooked in Y. The package I had for travelling on CX253 (departing 5 hours later) on the same day was: HKD1500, one-class upgrade, further luggage allowance and one J lounge entry.
And yes, also got HKD40 meal voucher while waiting to confirm whether there will be seats left in Y in that morning. |
The difference is that you did not need to transfer from other place. Shouldn't it be any different in the compensation? Not sure if it is only for long-haul route. Is it also applicable for intra-asia route?
