CX keeps downgrading me!

I guess it's kind of funny. Over the next 4 months I have a handful of HKG-TPE-HKG flights coming up, booked in F. About once every 10 days I get an update from expedia.com saying that one of my bookings has changed. I guess CX is swapping aircraft with no F class, and downgrading me to J. As if! Luckily there are so many flights between the two cities that I can switch to another one. It is a little bit of a pain because I have to call expedia, explain to them that this was the airline's schedule change, have them put me on hold while they contact CX, so on, so forth. It's not a huge deal even if I were in J since the flight is so short. But still. I imagine aircraft get swapped very often on this route?

CX directly

Why not call CX for tickets vs. expedia?

CX is notorious for changing/last minutes changing aircraft.
If you secure F class for TPE-HKG,
choose CX450/CX451.

Aircraft 1 :
HKG-TPE CX450
TPE-NRT CX450
NRT-HKG CX505

Aircraft 2 :
HKG-NRT CX504
NRT-TPE CX451
TPE-HKG CX451

These flights are always operated by 747-400.

These CX flights are part of mulit-city itineraries involving 2-3 airlines in addition to CX.

Sounds good. Have a couple flights on CX451, one CX466, and one on CX467 which I believe is a new configuration 777.

HKG - TPE flight is about 90 minutes and they do it around 14 times a day, so they do swap planes on this route quite often. If you look at the CX schedule, most of their aircraft on this route are marked as "EQV", with one of the exceptions, as already pointed out, being the CX450.

You could do a lot worse than being stuck in J on a 90 minute CX flight.

This happened to me very often too...I usually take the first flight HKG-TPE and this happened to me maybe 75% of the time in the past few months.

There's a payment of HKD 1000+ from CX for each downgrade F->J HKG-TPE or TPE-HKG (~HKD 500 in fare difference + HKD 500 in goodwill) - I think maybe this is payable only if you didn't get notified in advance ? that's what usually happened to me.

this is happening again, tomorrow morning...but this time it seems to be a last-minute change from 74A to 77A...so at least I got to keep my F seat...

Downgrade

Keep writing to CX Customer Relations.....

Each time I was downgraded, I wrote to CX Customer Relations, and have received an upgrade certificate (good for one sector). Not a bad deal to use them on long-haul J to F.....it's only valid for the passenger himself, and not transferable, however.

Do they send out upgrade certificate to a pax downgraded ONLY on HKG-TPE or TPE-HKG?

I was on a LHR-HKG-TPE-HKG-LHR redemption first class reward and was downgraded on HKG-TPE. They only gave me HKD500 as goodwill + fare difference, any comments?

Isn't that the same as what tedhl stated? Sounds like that is SOP.
