Flights to JNB, experience?

Not once in my CX time have I done JNB, but am thinking of it to visit a friend for Chinese New Year and taking an extra day or two off...yes, alas the company isn't paying and I'm either going to redeem a U ticket in J or pay for (cheapest possible, mileage accruing) Y-class.

1.) I saw tix round-trip for 8800 HKD (approx USD$1100) in V, is that already a pretty great fare for the route or have you done cheaper?

2.) How long does U availability usually stay available for in J (it was there a few days back), assuming I want to procrastinate before buying?

3.) Very unlikely...anyone know if 74A ever does the JNB route?

I may be an idiot but I really like to save my miles for J-F upgrades, so I'm not opposed to flying Y for 5 days of drinking with my friends in JNB.

Anyone??

No 74As on this route yet. This route also has no first during the summer (i.e., northern hemisphere summer) months, so I wouldn't expect that this would be high on their list for 74A assignment. I'm flying JNB-HKG in F at the end of February for the first time on this route as part of an AONE4. If you're accustomed to J/F, I'd think twice about Y. It's a very long flight, IMO.
