Checking more baggage after transit?

We am leaving luagge with a friend in HKG before we do our DONE4 (leaving it on the way to CMB to get the ticket). When we transit HKG from LHR on the way to MEL, are we able to collect it, and then check it at HKG station, even though we would already have been issued boarding passes in LHR, and therefore be checked in for the flight?

Or is the best option to only be checked in through to HKG, and then check in for the flight to MEL from HKG station? Also, as we will have been in the US on the DONE4, we will have the US luggage allowance for the whole DONE ticket right?

(Getting the extra luggage from ICN to HKG in the first place will be its own struggle!:p )

And, slight off topic, are there large 'van' taxis at HKG into the city, or would we need to book one? There will be 2pax, and more luggage than would fit in a normal taxi I think- probably 4 bags, plus carry-on!

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

I'm not sure about the luggage part... but for the 'van' service from the aiport, you can try calling one of the limo companies in HK.

For example, www.hongkonglimo.com has a Mercedes-Benz station wagon that should be able to carry all of your stuff.

On the pickup of luggage in HK, provided that you have the time to do so then yes it should be no problem to go landside, collect the luggage and then return to the check-in counter with your boarding pass & luggage to hand it over and get it associated with the BP.

For the taxis, no there are no van-taxis in HK. If you are staying in one of the more upmarket hotels then they should be able to arrange transportation of your luggage from the airport if you ask them to pick you up. Otherwise you'll need to go with a limo or van service. Your friend in HK might be able to recommend one.

Thanks for your help. I cehcked out the like to HK limos, exactly what I am looking for, I'll book them when the time is closer. Thanks for that bigbite!

Christep, as always, you replies are quick on the ball. Getting checked in for the connection in LHR will be better, giving more chance of grabbing the seats we want (as the seating request made at the time of booking still hasn't gone though...)
