CX Y on a 744
I read every single possible thread on FT and Cathaytalk about exit row/bulkhead seating in Y on a Cathay 744, and have snagged 44C for LAX-HKG-SFO, but I keep thinking maybe I should give 44A a try? On such a long flight, I'd really rather be a little more out of the way, but everything I've read makes the door sound like a real obtrusion. I flew 44A last year, but only NRT-HKG, and a family member was in 44B, so I probably could angle my legs with no problem. Does being able to lean/sleep on the wall make 44A worth the slight hassle?
How much room is there in row 30--there isn't nearly as much specific information about 30 as opposed to 44? I'm 6'5" , so should I just forget about it altogether? Thanks! |

I can't attest to Row 30, as my plane didn't have it. |
The emergency chute housing will definitely be an obstruction to you given your height.
I normally go for 44A/K on an overnight flight rather than 44C/H because I feel the benefit of being able to lean against the wall is worth sacrificing the extra shoulder room you get from seat C/H. But then I am only 5'10. Another benefit I find with A/K is that they are further from the toilet, marginally. |

Is there any leg room worth mentioning at the row 30 bulkhead, or would the bulkhead restrict full leg extension? I'm on the CX 885, which is usually a normal 744 with a larger Y cabin, not the 74J.

30C is great - used it on numerous LAX - HKG flights on CX8811 - only Yao Ming's legs could possibly touch the F/A's in the jumpseat in front of you. One downside: there is a Lav there and so you will have people standing there from time to time. West Coast Ace, I think what you are describing is row 44 (the emergency exit row) and not 30 because row 30 is bulkhead and doesn't have crew seat opposite or a toilet nearby. You are right about the leg room though, I often wonder whether it would be possible to use the pan of the the crew seat as an ottoman... Not at 5'10" I guess! Oneworldboy - row 30 on a 744 doesn't offer full leg extension, but I remember making a mental note to myself once that the HJK side has more leg room than the ABC side. Can someone pls confirm or otherwise? |

Both of my flights will be on 744 aircraft, not 74J, so yes, it appears there is a lav on the 30 ABC side but not the HJK side. That row 30 HJK looks pretty appealing, especially if I wouldn't have to worry about people crowding my legs in the loo queue. I wouldn't care so much in 44A/K, but 44C/H look to be in the middle of the lobby. |

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to scout the 30HJK side, which looks like it has a considerable advantage over 30ABC. Also, row 30 lets one disembark right after the premium passengers, which is always a nice bonus.
