BAEC/MPC and AsiaMiles
Hi
I am BAEC silver and normally travel quite extensively throughout Europe (I am Star Alliance gold as well) but am now relocating to Hong Kong. I suspect that I will do a reasonable amount of travel within Asia (probably economy) and 3-4 flights back to London each year, of which 1-2 will be business class. The question is shall I move my BAEC to HK and use it to collect AsiaMiles and BAEC status or sign up completely from scratch for the MPC/AsiaMiles program? Also, if I move my BAEC to HK, do I still need to do 4 BA sectors to qualify? Would like to hear from people who have had to take this decision... Thanks |

Thanks You can hedge your bets with 2 flights back to LON on the BA account (which if in biz + addy in europe is sliver). And credit the other flights to Asia Miles (which has better redemption rates in my opinion). MPC sliver/gold shouldn't be too hard to obtain with your travel patterns (but won't offer much more than BAEC silver....) |
MPC Gold is good for leisure travel since it offers guaranteed availability at the lowest published economy fare at 72 hours notice. This can save you a lot of money.

Have had exactly the same dilemma as you as I've also just relocated from London to HK (and strangely I also have BA Silver and BD*G). I decided to sit tight for the first year (and of course, you never know, it might be the last year....). You've got your flights back to the UK which as has been pointed out you could take on BA and which would get you 480/600 TP needed to retain Silver if you fly J. You don't say whether you're flying full-fare Y on the other Asia routes. If you're going on a heavily discounted fare then you won't get the BA TP which could leave you short of retaining status.
