Funny comment by FA ?
 

On flight from HKG - LAX F class, an attendant make a comment that I looked mixed and question my ethnicity (i am chinese) than she make a cheeky remark and told me to ask my mother if she had sex affair with another man. Was that rude or tasteless ?

Very rude comment from the FA.

It's impossible to judge without being there. One of the great things about CX (as opposed to some other airlines) is that they allow the FAs to be themselves rather than some standard "company robot". So like any people in real life occasionally they will make errors of judgement. If you had been chatting / flirting with the FA then I can imagine situations where this sort of comment would be just part of that, but since you feel it necessary to bring the question here I guess she misjudged the situation slightly.

I had a similar thing today where a senior purser in J was frankly a bit overly "frisky" with all 3 of the gwailos in her cabin, and was a bit too direct in comments about hoping for laisee. But it's not a big deal. (*)

Personally, I would rather that happened occasionally than that the service was without any individual character.

you shd hv talked to the Iflight Service Manager if u feel uncomfortable with the F/A's comment. Though shd might just want to make a more relax atmospheres, she must be reminded that not all paxs are that easy going and shd be aware of her choices of words when chatting with paxs

hmm not necessary to make a scene on board the flight :) I wasnt offended but it did make me uncomfortable and a bit shocked. We were not chatting at all.

I emailed customer service and will see how they reply.

In some cultures a "mixed" look is considered a positive thing. She was probably trying to pay you a compliment about your looks but in a flurting way. In other words she was saying: someone with your unique good looks couldn't possibly have two chinese parents. I could see someone who is proud of their pure Chinese heritage like yourself would find this offensive but I think she ment well. But I am not sure if you are offended by her flurting or her questioning your ethnicity.

well....the crew will be interviewed by the office and a report will be sent to the customer relationship and they will apologise and state that they will advise the crew to be aware of what they say on board in the future....and the reply will take even longer........

When my cousins flew from HKG to PEN once about 15 years ago, they had just married HongKong men, and were going home to visit family. One of the flight attendants asked where they were from, and in conversation realised that they were all from the same home town - Penang, in Malaysia.

Then when the flight attendant found out that my cousins had both married Hong Kong men, she replied, "Good. You've caught some nice fat fish!"

Needless to say, my cousins were both flabbergasted.

But they laughed it off, seeing the culture one can get into when they live in HongKong!

Please don't complaint - I just don't want any cabin crew to lose their personality and character, and provide robotic services. One thing I really enjoyed about CX First Class was that the crew took the time and talked to me about everything - her husband, her favorite place, her schedule etc. I just don't want that to be taken away.

Not offended by flirting or questioning my ethnicity. it is when she said in cantonese (chinese) that I should asked my mom about her sex partners that make me surprised. Do you call that flirting ?

I like flying CX and the crew's make me feel comfortable and very polite and this crew may have just said something rude she didnt realize.

In some cultures / contexts it could be, but you'd have to be getting on very well with her...

Just take in tongue in cheek and comment.. "What? You mean like you? So popular you are, aren't you with the guys here?"
