Does CX ever oversell BC?
 

does it, and if so, how to take advantage of it as a OW Emerald?

Flight in question is LHR-HKG on a Friday evening next month. All 3 revenue BC fare bucket are zeroed out. Y is wide open, F is showing as 4. All of next day's flights are pretty sold out in all 3 front cabins.

IF there's an oversell, where does one look for bumping? Any chance CX will offer compensation for deferring a day, to another OW carrier, or up? Not looking for a downgrade except for a huge sum.

They sure do and many CX and OW elites have been the beneficiaries of op-ups to F. How to be one of the lucky ones? Probably just by being in the right place at the right time.

When I checked in at SFO last month for my flight in J, I was told that J was overbooked. I offered to upgrade to F, but the agent just smiled. :) I did get a J-F upgrade on the return though. :D

Recently I was flying from JFK-HKG on the Sunday nonstop. When I was leaving the British airways lounge they asked if I was waiting to be downgraded? I explained that no....I was full fare business class. They explained that they were offering $3500 USD per person to downgrade one way and a row of seats in Economy for the long haul flight (at least 3 seats) and a duty free coupon for onboard spending for $250. The funny thing is that the woman who was asking people to downgrade at check in was only asking women and by the time I got on the list (at the club) I was the only male and #7.....They ended up "downgrading" 5 people...all women.

So in answer to your question....They downgrade and pay you big for it.

I wonder what would happen on an Award ticket. Not to get off topic, but I am on a BA flight SIN-LHR flight next month and F and J are zeroed out. I'm on a OW100F Award and BA were unable to give me a seat assignment for the flight. For $3500 and $250 in duty-free I just might think about it.
