How to view itinerary using Cathay reference?

Is this possible? I have a 5 letter reference but no Asia Miles account, can I view my booking online?
Thanks.

I have actually the same question and would be very grateful for an answer. Which reservation system is being used by Cathay????

Beats me. I could not get the website to work for me.

There is no way other than having Marco Polo Club/Asiamiles number in the PNR and view it through Cathay web site. The 5 letter code is for Cathay's own system, CUPID, I believe. You might be able to view it via the GDS your travel agent uses but you would need the 6 letter PNR code for that GDS.

This is correct; I have been through this with CX IT. I have a DONE4 booked through CX CMB and I was set up with an asia miles account. However as all flights are under my QFF number I cannot bring it up on my Asia Mile web page.

Your Asiamiles number would have to be on your entire booking on ONE CX PNR in order for you to view your itinerary.

If you used a TA then you would be able to use their various GDS system to view your itinerary. But if you booked through CX directly, there is no way to view the itinerary other than asking CX to email or fax you your itinerary.

Have you tried;

http://www.checkmytrip.com

I booked CX flights through BA and am able to check my itinerary that way, not sure if it will work the other way around though.

Checkmytrip.com is an Amadeus booking engine. BA uses Amadeus. If you booked your flights through BA or QF, you can use the above site. But people here are talking flights booked entirely through CX which at the present cannot be viewed by anyone without an Asiamiles account through cathaypacific.com.

The weird thing is that when you visit a booking on the Cathay site, it lists the Armadeus reference in the URL.

You can then plug it into CheckmyTrip and see everything about your booking.

Why they can't make it a lot simpler, I'm not sure... At least an online "View my trip" for everyone would be good.

But CX doesn't use AMADEUS. And their CRS, CUPID is actually closer to SABRE than anything else.

I start a DONE4 shortly, booked through the CX agent in Columbo. This has flights on CX, QF, BA, & AA

I have three record locators: Cathay's, Amadeus for BA/QF & AA's.

Check my Trip happily shows the BA/QF sectors, seat assignments etc. & I can use BA.com to assign seats etc for the BA flights. Same with AA.com; I can use the AA RECLOC to look at my AA flights, assign seats etc. .

However, I am unable look up my CX flights on the internet in any manner. I requested some assistance from the CX web site help desk and after a few emails to and fro I was advised by them that this will be the case unless I put my Asia Miles number against the flights instead of my QFF number.

I know!!

They must export them somehow to Amadeus when you're eligible for web viewing of them... Don't know the technicalities. All I can say is that I have an Amadeus reference for a Cathay booking which was booked through the Cathay website. The only unusual thing about the ticket is that is a paper ticket and involves a codeshare. Maybe that triggers the Amadeus export?

Well I booked another flight through the Cathay website tonight. When visiting the "Reservations Details" page, I am able to access the booking.

In the URL, there is the following syntax:
https://www.cathaypacific.com/xmlibe...&strLoc=XXXXXX

The XXXXXX reference is an Amadeus Trip number. Plugging that into www.checkmytrip.com gives me the flights. This is a pure CX flights only booking and is an electronic ticket.

Doesn't help of course if you don't already have online access to your booking. Suppose this gives it limited use. Would be a lot better if CX just had a generic "find your trip" page like most other airlines do...

CX has their own reservation system called CUPID and issues 5 alphanumeric character PNRs that either begin with H, J or K.

Presumably, CX's reservation system does not have the ability to interface directly with it's online booking site.

For CX's online booking site, they use a third party interface which is Amadeus based. Therefore, booking on CX's website is no different from booking from a travel agent that uses Amadeus.

When a booking is made, Amadeus would create a 6 alphanumeric character PNR which stores the CX segments booked. The CX segments would in turn be housed in a CX's CUPID system in a PNR that has 5 alphanumeric characters. This is why you can view such bookings on www.checkmytrip.com

However the difference between booking with a travel agent that uses Amadeus and the CX website comes into play when ticketing is done. A travel agent would issue the ticket using Amadeus and the Amadeus PNR would print on the ticket. CX would issue the ticket directly from CUPID and the CUPID PNR would show on the ticket. (correct me if I am wrong as it is also technically possible for CX to use Amadeus to issue tickets made over the web, but I find unlikely)

Cost wise, it is probably cheaper to for CX to use the web interface of a third-party GDS system (and have their web bookings go through it) rather than creating their own CUPID->web interface.

Also, if you make a booking direct with CX (i.e. over the phone or by visiting the ticket office), the booking is made directly into the CUPID system and there will only be a CX 5 alphanumeric character PNR issued. The only way to view these reservation on the CX website is if you have an Asiamiles/MPO number in the reservation and log-in using that.

FYI, CX used to use Sabre's "ITN" web interface for bookings on it's Canadian and U.S. websites. Now they have migrated over to the Amadeus web interface.
