Special Meal Question

I am making the switch from UAL for my Asia trips to AA/Cathay Pacific. I have my first trip from LAX to HKG and using it to built AA miles/status and was wondering if anyone knows what special meals are offered by Cathay and are they better than the standard meals.

Unfortunately I'll be flying economy on this trip and I always found on UAL when I flew economy that I was better off ordering the fruit plates rather than having the standard meals.

If anyone has information and opinions on what choice makes the best sense I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

The regular meals are just as high quality as the special meals. There is no benefit from ordering it except to meet your dietary requirements. And having a special meal ordered reduces the chance for an op-up.

You can find a list of the different types of special meals here:

CX Special Meals

I always order vegetarian meals (either western or Indian), and these vary between average and excellent. I do find, though, that they don't make as much effort with the vegetarian meals as they do with regular meals on some flights, and the number of courses can be less. I am not sure specifically about meals in economy.
