Why does CX website not accept MAC's?

I tried booking a flight through CX Website, and when I selected the "Show schedule and fare" option, the site comes up with errors, stating that I need to use Microsoft IE (5.5) or Netscape.

I am using Apple's browser "Safari" and this has never happened to me on CX site... I also tried Apple's MS Explorer that came with the mac and still gave me errors.

This must have been a recent change. Oh well, got to use Windows to book.

The Opera browser also does not work well.

Furthermore, PCs in two CX lounges so far did not allow me to make reservations because they were equipped with only older versions of IE.

Same experience with Safari on my Mac. Used to work but not anymore. I thought I read in a CX email that they've revamped their online reservation service. They call this "progress"?

It does however work on the IE (v. 5.2.3 copyright 1995-2001) (!!!) on my Mac. I guess CX likes old and virus-prone technology. :D

The new booking engine is a disaster. I am using IE 6.0 and have not been able to complete a simple HKG.TPE booking for next month. Engine brings up wrong flights, incomplete pricing data, and at the end of the process an error message asking me to call. This is the latest misstep in a long series of bad IT decisions.

They also block Mozilla, which is the succesor to Netscape
great way to go.

This is really stupid because if I change the User-Agent to something they support the website works.

I totally agree. It's pretty inconvenient to have to use another computer just to access some information.

It's also unfortunate to see that some web developers don't do QA testing on other platforms, specially when I.E. is being dumped by many people.

I noticed, however that the booking engine on cxleverage.com works well with Safari.

Workaround to using Safari and www.cathaypacific.com

I figured out a way to see the fare and itinerary page on cathaypacific.com using Safari.

When you choose your city pairs and click 'Show Fares and Availability", the result page will flash for a brief second before it gives you the error page. At that very moment (before the error page), press Command-period. It should then give you the page you want. When you click on "Get Fares", also prepare to press Command-period before the next page shows.

I hope this helps.

As I am also using safari I have the same problem. I tried the same trick, but you have to be really fast. I downloaded netscape (7.2), and now everything is working fine...

It is working now!

I just accidently tried it again - and now the website is working fine with Macs / Safari

Yes, confirmed working ok on a Mac running Safari 1.2.4

However I did note some of the date clicking on the calender didn't quite work right as far as transferring to the actual flight dates. Probably just a glitch to be sorted out.

I heard that Cathay is redoing website, and the Mac issue is one of the things they are working on. They should have it up and going in coming months (not sure exactlyt when yet). I am going to suggest that I am one of their betta testers for the site.

Where do you find the download for Safari 1.2.4? I've gone onto Apple's website, and the latest download that I get is only Safari 1.2.

Part of the upgrade to OS X 10.3.8, as I recall.
