I got this fare basis code from Orbitz. Can someone tell me what is the fare class. I need to buy H fare to get AA mileage.

Honestly.. I don't know. Fare basis codes on CX fares mean nothing. It's the booking class that says it all. On CX fares, you can have a Y fare basis and your booking class is K! Go figure.

So you'd have to ask Orbitz people (not CX - because they don't know either).

I can take a guess... but you'd have to tell me your routing, destination, date of departure and return, and I can try and do a comparison.

My guess will be M.

Guy Betsy, isn't it always (?) the case that the first letter of the fare basis is the class of service?
Like JOW, JRT, JOX, etc.

Not always. In fact, it looks like very common that the two -- booking class and first letter of the fare basis -- differ. I have several tickets to prove this.

If it's a business class fare, then yes, that is how you'd look at it. The logical mind would say MKCSOR would mean M: booking class. K:Mid week CSO: probably the promo name R:Return

But as I've seen how CX fares go especially the special fares, the fare basis has almost nothing to do with the booking class. I've seen HLX6M fare basis' and the booking class is M. Or JOX1D and the booking class is D. This is more prevalent when it is not a straight off published fare but when it is a 'special' negotiated fare the agency has with CX.

MPEX6 : L
YLEM : M

That is why I said I don't know.. the best is to check with Orbitz.

I emailed Orbitz and got the answer from them. The booking class is the first letter in the fare basis code. This is true for all their fare.
