waitlist

hi.. i m originally booked on July 11 for HKG-SUB.. but becoz of some family problems.. i need to fly earlier.. the earliest flight would be July 8.. but then the flight itself is full.. n i m placed on waitlist now..

what is my possibility on getting on the July 8th flight??

I am a Marco Polo Silver member by the way.. n i m booked on M class.. a discounted economy fare..

I'm sorry to say but you have 99% chance of NOT getting your seat.

The econ is overbooked.

is what it's showing. If you held a Y or B fare, and if your travel agent has strong connection with CX sales office, you might have a chance. But with your M fare....

If you have compassionate reason, they might accomodate you.

OR, here's your best bet. Currently, the Business is Wide open. So, call CX and request an upgrade award to be booked onto the 8th flight. Yes, it does require u to have confirmed Yclass booking on the 8th, but they might accomodate you.

thanks fakecd for checkin it out..

do you think i should go to the airport and wait there?? would it have a higher chance of getting a seat for me??

Even if you go to airport and "wait", what exactly are you waiting for?
1) for M-class waitlist to clear?
2) for upgrade award to clear?

If you are simply waiting for M-class to clear, I don't think it's a good idea. I don't see how they will accomodate you, when the plane is already showing full. So, You will go to airport with virtually no luck.

With the 2nd approach, I really am not the best person to talk to. I would recommend talk to MPC to see what they can offer. It's only a flight 2 days ahead, so if there's an award availability, it should be there by now. The only problem is, CX tend to NOT give ANY award seats available if a flight is overbooked. This is for obvious reason --> to op-up the overbooked Y pax.

There may be a chance!

I am not an expert on this but I guess you might have a chance. Let's analyse it this way:

We know from this forum that CX frequently oversells (but is very good at estimating eventual load since some passengers will not show up). What they do is that they upgrade econ passengers to business (according to tier or whatever). Plus, a lot of people hold duplicate bookings (or are waiting for other flights to clear) and only move their bookings rather close to departure. Quite often, people who use their miles to upgrade still have their econ seats held in the system altho they wont be sitting in econ.

Whilst the econ cabin shows itself full at the moment, the fact is that you can still be waitlisted - this means the situation is not too bad. If the flight is really in great demand, even the waitlist will be full and closed and they will not allow you to waitlist - which is NOT the case here.

With your silver status, you have a bit of priority also.

Your added advantage is that you seem to be traveling alone. As for going to the airport, I would imagine that to be a definite advantage, if the waitlist situation doesn’t clear before hand. The reason is that few people will take the trouble to wait at the airport and you only need one passenger to change his mind, to be late, to forget his passport or whatever.

From what I have noticed, it is not uncommon for waitlisted passengers such as yourself to be able to get on. My hunch is that your waitlist will clear maybe 24 hours before the flight.

At any rate, I think and hope you will be able to get on. Good luck and keep us informed.

From personal experience, CX will open up more seats at least within 72-48 hours prior to departure.

You have Silver status, so that's good. You also have a higher booking class than others who might be waitlisted in S, V, L class.

Chances are that CX will most likely confirm you.. and given that the flight is overbooked.. you might be slated for an op-up... BUT only if you're confirmed.

Tell CX res (not MPC).. that you NEED To travel on that date because of a family emergency. The res people will do all they can to accomodate. I say to call res is because they seem to know what to do in situations like these as opposed to the MPC.

hi guys.. i just called the marco polo n the reservation center.. both of them said that the chance for me to get on tomorrow flight is basically not exist.. so i guess only can wait for sunday's flight.

Agree with Guy Betsy. Was in a hopeless waitlist situation to SIN on the 9th. Waitlisted in all discount classes. After the issue deadline they called my travel agent to tell me I could go (2 days before dep.) ^
I am just a silver member.
