Should I ask for an upgrade voucher?
I'm just curious, Emerald here. I keep thinking about it, but always end up putting it off. My last F flight got caught in headwinds from LAX-HKG and refeuled in TPE. This made me miss my connection to another 744 BKK flight in F and was downgraded to J due to different equipment plus a 6+ hour wait for that next flight. As always, fantastic service in all the planes and in the F lounge, took a shower, ate, literally passed out standing, etc. I was never approached for it, nor did I asked for anything, but should I have?
Should I ask for an upgrade voucher (for a future purchase) when I check in on CX later on, or write to them in HKG now? Should I do nothing? Thoughts? Thanks! |

Thanks! And CX did all they could for you.. and their contract to you was to bring you to your final destination. Which they did. If you had a fullfare ticket, CX would of course give you a refund. But if you're on aRTW, oh well...these things happen.. and you're not the only one who missed the connecting flights. |
I can understand that CX differentiated weather problem causing the pax to be downgraded into a 2 class only flight...But , when CX changed aircraft before and downgraded me ( 2 or 3 times from F to C ) , they came out with
cash payment ( US$150 I think ) , offered to be paid in either HK$ or US$ . And this was on paid and award tickets , no difference , for the short flights from HKG to BKK . |
Thanks GB! That's why I always put it off as I just had terrific service. No complaints here.

Cathay will reconpensate those who has been inconvenienced when its due. I find that it's impolite to ask and demand for more.
However, you may simply write into Customer Service and perhaps highlight the fact that you have been 'downgraded' to Business Class when you have a First Class ticket. And see what transpires. I was recently unfortunate enough myself to have had to fly HKG-AKL on one of the 2 class aircraft when I had a First Class RTW ticket. I hadn't written in about it. |

I think CX Diamonds have a bit more leeway and clout than other Oneworld Emeralds.

i would ask for an upgrade.
chances are if cx gave you one, it would be a space available and confirmable at a time that was close to departure. if they gave you a jto f (d to a) upgrade you are still flying on a premium ticket. its the y to j upgrades that de-value the premium product. if cx played their cards right and made this upgrade a >24 hour upgrade they would be giving you a seat that would probably go empty and keep you as a happy (premium paying) customer just my 2 cents |
Today, I received a letter from CX from my compliments of the service I received on one of my flights and they are looking forward to welcoming me again in the "near future". I still didn`t ask!
