Qatar is the only one world member that offers its members lounge, even 3rd party if I remember correctly, when you fly with them? Don’t recall any other airlines offering their members lounge access for silver.

Judging from the interpretations here and elsewhere, it seems that most people implicitly acknowledge that unlimited lounge access for CX SL now is too good to be true :D
Dreading a possible program change maybe doesn't mean that its former self was too good, you deserve what you paid for (paid for in the previous membership year) |
I’m CX GO and would only achieve SL next year as I haven’t really noticed any difference apart from having a companion in the lounge. For seating I just choose the SL seats because even one accompanying companion needs to pay for those GO ones so it doesn’t feel like good value to be a few more rows forward. I used to take J on other carriers as they are cheaper ex-HKG (e.g. EK to BKK, MY to other destinations) and if I go long haul I’ll reposition for cheaper J as I only do it a few times a year. So if many of your flights are already J, i’m not even sure if even SL is worth chasing as other airlines offer better pricing. I’ve found the CX food to be poor on its intra-Asia J and seating to be mediocre if it’s those regional ones (especially the one with 2-3-2 configuration). So I’m still deciding whether it’s worth chasing SL at all. GO is certainly not worth it.

You are very correct on the pricing of CX specifically in J.

Does SL currently have unlimited access to CX lounges in HKG?

Maybe SL members should be restricted to 2 lounge visits per year if traveling in y/pe.
Unlimited seems a bit too generous Would say 4 but 4 seems to be a "bad" number in chinese |

For CX owned/operated lounges... is there really any marginal cost to allow extra guests access? From a pure financial perspective I don't necessarily think this makes a lot of sense since it wouldn't save them any money. Well, unless CX is thinking about some scheme to get SL pay something for access (discounted AM redemption?)
From a customer experience perspective, less people access surely means more tranquil lounges. However, I don't think HKG lounges are seeing significant overcrowding yet. Especially with the Bridge reopening, I feel like there are plenty of spaces even during the midnight departure bank. |

Unlimited seems a bit too generous Would say 4 but 4 seems to be a "bad" number in chinese The average SL flyer probably takes 10 to 15 segments annually on CX, maybe more if they fly on cheaper fare buckets or on regional flights. Four is barely enough, and by a long shot. CX has already made SL harder to earn following the program revamp in the mid-2010's (I still remember back in the day, 2x longhaul roundtrips were enough to qualify for SL, even at Y class accrual rates. Not anymore...). The thing about taking away unlimited lounge access might be the last straw that breaks the camel's back and force loyal SL's to take their business elsewhere if it really does happen. And then there's the psychological element as well. Unlimited access has been a perk of SL for what, 25+ years now? Restricting it to 4 will literally seem like a middle finger to many. In which case those members would say "bye CX, I'm taking my business elsewhere, I could probably even get J on other airlines for close to the price of PEY on CX". |

Re financial and lounge capacity perspective other posters mentioned, maybe we should read it together with the news that Pier and Deck will no longer exist in the future. It makes sense for CX to take away SL access if they plan to downsize HKG lounges. |
Anyway, from previous discussion and speculation, I think CX is making it easier to obtain SL and GO? So existing SL has a bigger incentive to chase GO and the cost of retaining SL is lower if they choose not to progress. Same for DM I suppose? Some of the current unofficial perks will be taken away but it will be less costly to retain DM or to obtain DMP.
If the above is true, basically it's a gamble that pax are willing to chase for the next level of membership when their existing benefits are gone while getting next level is cheaper than before. |
The OP was about change in the mid-status lounge access benefit. For example, when one is still a Green member and hasn't even reached Silver yet. This thread has now changed into pure speculation that SL member lounge access will be curtailed or eliminated. Let me offer my own speculation, this may be much ado about nothing. I guess we'll find out in due course.

Let’s just hope CX doesn’t make the same mistake BA made on revamping BAEC.

I agree with takes that SL lounge access is unlikely to be cut. Costs are easy to keep on the books at CX-operated lounges. This kind of cost control plays well when you're a public company. If unlimited lounge access gets nerfed, they’ll likely offer more lounge passes as a sweetener. SL with guest access becomes a more deliberate and itinerary-based perk.
More exposed are benefits involving third-party handlers, like priority baggage or check-in. These are often billed per head or piece, and costs have been rising. |
