Someone else member number in booking
Has anyone seen something like this:
1. Removed member number in the lounge after checking in for the 2nd leg (out of a total of 4) to save status points from being wasted 2. Flew 2nd leg, no Cathay member number for sure, as no free Wi-Fi, and activity did not post in my account 3. Prior to checking in 3rd leg, checked the booking with booking reference and name, and to my surprise I saw a Bangkok Airways FFP number in there (not a member or have I ever flown them) 4. Updated my membership number to Cathay immediately, and left it for the remainder flights. 3rd leg activity not posted, but 4th leg was I will give Cathay a call after a few more days to see if anything posts for 3rd leg, but any cause to be concerned? |
I encountered a very similar scenario yesterday.
I didn't enter any FFP when purchasing a set of CX return tickets. The check-in counter in HKG inserted my CX FFP for lounge access and I removed the FFP at the bridge's counter afterwards. Since I have removed my CX FFP for the rest of the journey, the boarding pass, supposingly, should be clean. However there was a mysterious FFP printed on my returning journey's bp, starting with AY. I am pretty sure I have not join any programme from AY. I asked the staff to remove that FFP which came out of no where and re-print the bp for me. |
Wow sounds scary...
Good that u guys checked it |
I encountered the same situation.
Removed FFP via WhatsApp CS (4 sectors flight) All 4 sectors were being claimed, and even one sector said I entered the wrong birthday. |
Is it CX finally started to do something to tackle this kind of fraudulent activity? I.e. removal of FFP after obtaining benefits from it (entered the lounge)

Why VE105 would you say this is fraud? You can enter any OneWorld Lounge without your membership being in the system by showing your membership card.
|
alarming.

https://www.alaskaair.com/content/ai...Qca-gSA_rBQ6FR "However, all guests must include their eligible frequent flyer number on their reservation prior to check-in to access the lounge. oneworldŽ frequent flyer membership cards do not grant access to the lounge and the frequent flyer number on the reservation will determine whether a member is eligible for access." |
That is interesting .. guess I have not had the chance to find out (probably the hard way)!

Who is scanning the system and putting in the random ff numbers from other airlines?
Surely the name wouldnt match with those random ff numbers? |
It's not unheard of mileage being hijacked by hackers and insiders. Sellers on the dark web already insinuate this happens by bribing customer support centers for customer data and monitoring unmarked itineraries. It's also selective with intent of going unnoticed. This is also why 2FA has been increasingly emphasized or even strictly enforced by airlines just to manage bookings.

May I ask what happened in the end? Did you manage to get back all sectors to your account?
After the investigation, they said they confirmed my account was safe. Points and status points reclaimed. (Side note: see if your journey includes any mainland journey, I remember my boarding pass and IDs were being taken for "another verification" and I saw them take pictures on it (non-cx uniform staff) ex-mainland. ) |

Handled by CX fraud team. They judged me for different things (2-factor authentication on emails and CX app, email being hacked, CX account being hacked, public wifi, etc).
