Mixed Cabin Check In

I've booked a flight out of YVR on PY connecting to a flight in J - I understand that I will have lounge access at both YVR and HKG however I'm wondering what the policy is regarding which check in line to use? Is it also based on the highest class of service or the class of service on the first leg?

I do not believe you are entitled to lounge access based on class of service at YVR

Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights: First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 06:00am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).

Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight. You must be prepared to show your boarding pass for travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

In practice you may get away with both lounge access and J check in.

First point: beg to differ, you will get J lounge access at YVR based on CX's (rather generous) in house policy:

https:/www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/destinations/lounges/all-lounges-admittance.html

"If you're travelling on Cathay Pacific operated flights in different cabin classes within the same journey, you can enjoy lounge access if at least one sector of your journey is booked in First or Business class, and your connection is within 24 hours. We will honour the highest class of travel for lounge entitlement* throughout the same journey to ensure maximum comfort. In cases where the journey includes a stopover, lounge entitlement will be honoured based on individual sectors."

Can't find anything official from CX w.r.t. check in & boarding priority - it doesn't make a difference for non-DM status pax - just hazarding a guess, YMMV for priority check in but probably not for priority boarding?

The line is so short at YVR.....SL/GO/DM/PY/J/OW's basically all use the same one counter

Check in at J and stop stressing.

pf007 is correct. Lounge access on Cathay Pacific is far more generous than OW connecting rules. The highest class of service on any flight on the day will grant access to the relevant (highest class) lounge for all flights.

more curious what fare type you buy to get longhaul PY and short hau J. is that a full fare PEY (W fare) which gets booked to J (I or D sUbclass) when short haul PEY is not offered?

When there is no PEY on the short haul sector you get booked into Y.

Indeed, this is weird. Mixed cabin bookings offered by CX website would usually book into Y when PE is not available on the regional segment.
Was it separate bookings?

I'll throw my hat in the ring. Could be someone who had the GO short haul upgrade certs.

Then couldn't they check in at J counters since they are GO?

Good point not the GO themself but they could be a GO’s redemption group nominee
