Status (and renewal)
Thought I could stay more in Asia this year, but turns out its not to be. I am at 228 Status points this year so far. I have a trip to from BCN to Muscat coming up before the end of the year, but not sure it will earn me enough miles (flying Qatar, Economy). And even if, I guess I be back down to Green a few days later starting Jan 2025.
Any way to calculate the miles I could earn on Qatar?! Will I actually be silver until Jan 2026, or just for the few days of Dec 2024? Thanks |

Looks like you won't make it given that BCN to MCT via DOH gives max 25 each way on Econ (and that's if CX credits BCN-DOH, DOH-MCT). My suggestion would be to book a status trip if you're worried about retaining CX Silver status by the end of your membership year. Will I actually be silver until Jan 2026, or just for the few days of Dec 2024? |

Unsure what you mean by this. If you have hit Silver in 2024 and don't hit the status points needed to renew by your membership year, you'll be downgraded. Cathay's system works that when you actively achieve a tier, renew or downgrade, your membership year resets on that day. |

Thanks, so if I achieve silver on Dec 29th 2024, I will retain that tier until Dec 28th 2025?
Cathay's system is different in which once you hit a tier milestone, all tier points reset and you'll need to start from the start. So for example, if you achieve Silver (and have not yet already retained) on Dec 29th 2024, you'll need to hit 300 again to retain for a further 12 months and then hit 600 for Cathay Gold. |

That is correct. Once you retain or upgrade to silver, you will attain that tier for a further 12 months.

I am not flying that much, nor for business. But I dont want to chase the Silver status, if I only find that its taken away from me again days later (at the 1st of Jan 2025), should I achieve it before the end of 2024. (I will probably spent some time in Asia this year, and use HKG more frequently, so the lounge access that comes with Silver is all that I am after) |

Will I still qualify if I only earn my points through other OW carriers (points credited to CX) and not on CX flights?
