Cathay "link earn" promotion

Has anyone seen this? Do we lose something else with it? A bit confused as to what it is to be honest!

https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...rd-linked.html

So instead of presenting a QR code for miles accrual and a card/mobile pay for payment, just tap a pre-registered card, and perform miles accrual and payment with the tap.

Only 16 partners are listed to be currently supporting this (see above link)

(I suspect) Mobile pay cannot do this - they can't link DAN numbers to Cathay membership numbers.

forum here quite a microcosm of the general public towards this promotion - indifferent

such a weak proposition with extremly limited merchants that only a minimal fraction of the public would benefit from

also you have to explicitly tell the cashier that you want to collect miles - the system doesn't automatically do it for you
who's going to memorize or print the merchant list so that they remember to inform the cashier about this new scheme?

lastly I can't even find on their website what's the extra earn rate (apart from the one-off bonus of 250AM) - can someone enlighten us?
EDIT: yes, it'd be the same as if you scanned your CX membership card

Oh I see, it's only with those merchants (none of whom I have ever heard of)? Wasted my time linking my cards!

Agreed - it really makes no sense when you look at what KDollar / New World has done, you can link your card and automatically earn KDollars at all their eligible outlets, without having to do anything or say anything.

EDIT: I think the page only shows featured partners, they do link to "all partners" which is much more comprehensive: https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...rs.html#dining

Thanks ol' mate smithy for the always quick, clear & concise lowdown

still it is still really lacklustre that it's not automatically done & the merchant list is so limited
it could have been so much more attractive, they could have thought it out better prior to (hastily it seems) rolling this thing out

So how will we KNOW that we need to tell the staff about this? Telepathy or will there be signs in the store?

The same way that you had to tell the staff before if you wanted to earn asiamiles at the partner restaurants.. you just have to know... there's never any promotional material in any of the restaurants I've been to that were part of the program...

1. I read Cou Cou no longer support separate scan code earn. I don’t eat at Cou Cou but I linked my cards anyway.

2.T&Cs do say mobile pay is supported when the base card is registered. We will see.

does anyone have any practical experience with using Apple / Google / Samsung Pay with this?
like do the transactions still register?

Apple Pay/Android Pay is supposed to work https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...20and%20Paypal.

I’m sitting in a Sensory Zero location. I’m paying with a linked card later (doesn’t look like the staff know how to credit separately)
(Sorry I was able to apply a discount. Probably no resulting earn)

30 May - I applied a discount for dinner and paid by Apple Pay - no earn.

18 Jun - I applied a discount for lunch and paid by Apple Pay - card link earn confirmed today.
